05/08/2014 …. Goa Tourism has been awarded Safari India South Asia Travel awards in the category for ‘Best State for Water sports’ for the year 2014. This award was given at a ceremony held in New Delhi on August 2, 2014 and was received by the Deputy Resident Commissioner of Goa Sadan in Delhi, Ms. Valsala Vijayan.

Mr. Dilip Parulekar, Tourism Minister Goa, said, “It is a matter of great pride that the state of Goa is being recognized for its water sports activities. It is an honor to receive this from the editorial board of an established publication. More and more people are warming up to the idea of water sports adventure activities in the country. We have also observed that international tourists too are game for this.

As Goa continues to grow as a destination of choice for holiday goers, the demand for water sports will continue to be on the rise. Of course, this is also subject to us keeping ourselves updated with the latest technology, safety standard and skill sets in this field.”

In order to develop water sports in the state, Goa is working towards a single window system for all water sports activities in the state. This system will streamline the queue system, billing, ticketing, etc. thereby benefiting the local operators.

One of the biggest advantages that Goa has is that it is blessed with a gorgeous coastline and this, is the main attraction for tourists who come here. Apart from the coast, there are also several rivers and backwaters which provide the perfect back drop for these activities. Over the years we have witnessed a rising number of people willing to try their hand at water sports. This has led to the mushrooming of several operators and diving schools across the state. However, Goa Tourism understands that safety is of prime importance and this is why we have in place strict measures to ensure that tourists have a safe, unforgettable experience.
