Panaji, September 4, 2018 … The Governor of Goa Dr (Smt) Mridula Sinha has extended her warm greetings and best wishes to the entire teaching fraternity of Goa on the occasion of Teacher’s Day on 5th September, 2018.

The Governor in her message has said 5th September is celebrated as Teachers Day as a mark of tribute to the contribution made by all the teachers to our society, through sheer hard work and dedication. 5th September is also the birth anniversary of a great teacher Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was a staunch believer of value based education, and was well – known diplomat, scholar, the President of India and above all, a teacher. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who was one of his closest friend had once quoted about Dr. Radhakrishnan : “he has served his country in many capacities. But above all, he is a great teacher from whom all of us have learnt much and will continue to learn. It is India’s peculiar privilege to have a great philosopher, a great educationist and a great humanist as President. That itself shows the kind of men we honour and respect”.

The Governor further said Teacher or a Guru plays the most important role in our lives. It is one of the greatest services known to mankind and a noblest profession, as enlightening others through your own knowledge and skills is a supreme contribution to the society like no other. We encounter different teachers / gurus in our life time. Starting from a mother, who is the first ever teacher in one’s life who not only brings us to this world but also makes us capable of facing the life and the challenges it throws towards us. Followed by the school and Colleges teachers who mould us and make us proficient enough to take up careers in life and make a better living. Hence Teachers Day is a great occasion for celebrating and enjoying the relationship between teachers and students and should be considered as a thanks giving day from children to their mothers and from students to their teachers. The role of teachers in the making of a nation is most important and significant; therefore it is necessary that we pay our utmost respect and gratitude to them.

The Governor has appealed to all the teachers in Goa to re-dedicate themselves to their profession and discharge their duties with renewed sense of responsibility, sincerity and vision.
