Governor of Goa, Shri P.S. Sreedharan Pillai accompanied by Shri Rohan Khaunte, Minister for Tourism, Information and Technology, Shri Swapnil Chodankar, Sarpanch, Penha-de-Franca and Smt.Kavita Naik, Zilla Panchayat Member visited Porvorim in Bardez taluka as part of “Goa Sampurna Yatra’”, yesterday.
The Governor started his tour by visiting Our Lady of Penha-de-Franca Church and offered special prayers Rev. Fr. Matheus Sequeira and Fr. Antony Britto were present on the occasion.
Later, the Governor visited Shree Vetal Maha Rudra Mandir. The committee members welcomed him.
Interacting with Sarpanch, Deputy Sarpanch and Panchas of Panchayats of Salvador-do Mundo, Socorro and Penha-de-Franca at V.P. Socorro, Bardez, the Governor assured that Raj Bhavan will follow up the matter with the Government in resolving their grievances.
Governor further informed that, during his tenure of 18 months he met thousands of people and have realised that the people in Goa are affectionate, loving and hardworking. The breath-taking villages and the temples, churches etc have artistic value, the Governor said.
Praising mother earth, Governor P. S. Sreedharan Pillai said the beautiful trees and forest resources in Goa attract nature lovers. Goa ranks first among the union of states of India as regards to per capita income, he added.
Speaking on the occasion Shri Rohan Khaunte said he has been successful in providing basic requirements of the people of the Constituency as per their demands. The Governor has visited almost all the constituencies of the State and he knows the hardships faced by the people. Our Governor has walked the extra mile to see for him the ground reality, visited maximum villages to know and study the rural life of the people. His desire to know about Goa is admirable, the Minister added.
Sarpanch, Socorro Panchayat, Mrs. Soniya Pednekar welcomed the guests.
The Governor Shri P.S. Sreedharan Pillai was felicitated on behalf of Porvorkars by offering him Shawl, Sriphal and traditional lamp at the hands of Shri Rohan Khaunte.
The Governor disbursed financial assistance for Dialysis patients in and around Porvorim, Bardez.
Later, the Governor visited WRD Tank and Bio-Methanation Garden, Nr. Police Headquarters, Porvorim, as part of his visit.
