Creative minds can transform society and India has a huge demography of youth who have tremendous creativity which can be utilized for nation building stated Governor, Shri P.S. Sreedharan Pillai while speaking at the State Level Goa Revolution Day celebrations at Azad Maidan in the city today.

Earlier the Governor along with the Chief Minister, Dr Pramod Sawant and other dignitaries laid wreaths at the Martyr’s Memorial to pay rich tributes to freedom fighters and Martyrs of Goa’s freedom struggle.

The Governor recalling the supreme sacrifice of the freedom fighters asked everyone to introspect and ask themselves whether they have aspirations as noble as that of the freedom fighters. He said the freedom fighters dreamt of Goa being a happy, peaceful and developed State. He urged people to rededicate themselves to the vision, dream and hopes as cherished by Goa’s freedom fighters.

The Governor recalling the history of Goa freedom struggle said Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia ignited the spark of the freedom movement in Goa inspiring many to join to liberate Goa. Finally when the Government of India initiated military action against the Portuguese, the dream of freedom of Goa became a reality. “Therefore, we have the task to be a vigilant society with regards to sustaining our freedom which is to pass to our future generation,” the Governor added.

 Chief Minister, Dr Pramod Sawant while greeting the people on the occasion said the younger generation needs to know the history of Goa’s freedom movement and therefore an animated movie on Goa’s freedom movement is being produced.

Further speaking, the Chief Minister recalled the struggle of the freedom fighters who have laid their lives for the freedom of Goa.  He called upon the people to support the Government to make Goa a well developed self-reliant Viksit Goa by 2037.

The President of Goa Freedom Fighters Association, Shri Rohidas Desai while addressing the people recalled the supreme sacrifice and martyrdom of all the freedom fighters. He appealed to the authorities to work towards protecting Goa’s identity as a peace loving and safe State which will be a befitting tribute to our martyrs he said.

Earlier the children of Bal Bhavan sang patriotic songs. The Police troop gave “Shastr Salami” while the police band played bugle in respect to martyrs.

Minister for Water Resource, Shri Subhash Shirodkar, Minister for Power, Shri Ramkrishna alias Sudin Dhavlikar, Leader of Opposition, Shri Yuri Alemao, Chief Secretary Dr.V. Candavelou IAS, Director General of Police Goa, Shri Alok Kumar IPS, Secretaries, Senior Government officials, freedom fighters, and prominent citizens attended the function.
