Goan Reporter News: Stakeholders Conclave On World Standards Day Held

The Stakeholders Conclave, organized by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Hubli Branch Office in collaboration with Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Directorate of Industries Trade and Commerce, Department of Legal Metrology Goa and in coordination with DC-MSME, Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Goa State Industries Association and other Industry Associations was inaugurated today by Shri Jayant G. Tari, Director of Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs. The event took place at the Taj Vivanta in Panaji, emphasizing the theme for the 2024 World Standards Day: “Shared Vision for a Better World – Standards for Sustainable Development Goals.”

In his keynote address, Shri Jayant G. Tari highlighted the critical role standards play in everyday life, stating, “Industries, businesses, and trade have all advanced by adopting standards, a vital step towards excellence.” He underscored the significance of World Standards Day as an opportunity to enhance understanding of standardization and engage stakeholders on both local and global issues.

Shri Tari emphasized that recognizing standards as integral to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) transforms them from mere technical guidelines into essential tools for facilitating change and addressing complex challenges. “Standards can serve as a unifying force to bring various stakeholders together to tackle the challenges outlined in the SDGs,” he concluded.

The welcome address was delivered by Shri D. P. Kumar, Scientist-E/Director & Head of BIS, Hubli Branch Office, followed by a reading of a message from Shri Ashutosh Agrawal, Scientist-B/Assistant Director.

Dr. Divya Singhal, Professor at the Goa Institute of Management, conducted a session on “Sustainability and Indian Standards: Promoting Green Manufacturing and Eco-Friendly Practices,” adding depth to the discussions.

The event featured the Manak Geet, the theme song of the Bureau of Indian Standards.

Attendees included stakeholders, BIS Hubli branch officers, government officials, Faculties and students.

The program was compered by Smt. Jessica Sharma, with a vote of thanks proposed by Shri Ashutosh Agarwal, Scientist-B/Assistant Director.
