Goan Reporter: Vice-President of India Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar Unveils Two Statues at Raj Bhavan Lawns

Vice-President of India Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar in distinguished  presence of Governor of Goa Shri P.S. Shreedharan Pillai and Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant unveiled and commissioned the statues of Acharya Charaka and Sage Susruta installed at Raj Bhavan today.

Wife of Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, Dr. Sudesh Dhankhar also graced the occasion.

Others present were Shri Shripad Naik, Union Minister of State for Power and New and Renewable Energy, Shri Sadanand Shet Tanavade, Rajya Sabha MP, Shri Joshua De Souza, Deputy Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly, Shri. Ramkrishna Dhavlikar, Power Minister and Former Chief Minister, MLA’s and others.

Addressing the function Vice-President of India Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar said, man in uniform made the Indians proud recently. Acknowledging their contributions, the Vice President said, Operation Sindoor has sent a loud and clear message to the world that India will not tolerate terrorism. Such an operation was necessary. This has made everyone understand India’s strength, he concluded.

Praising the dedicated work of Governor and complimenting him for Vaman Vriksha Kala Udyan which is also popularly known as “Bonsai Garden” the Vice President said, that the Atharva Veda is often considered a gold mine for health knowledge because it is believed to be a foundational text for Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of medicine.

The Vice-President, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar also called for focussing on alternative medicine and for evidence based validation of our ancient texts to make them accessible and applicable to contemporary challenges.

Vice-President praised the Prime Minister for his bold decision and said Operation Sindoor was a need of the people.

Speaking on the occasion the Governor Shri P. S. Shreedharan Pillai informed about his yatras. He said, since assuming charge as the Governor of Goa he has undertaken several yatras across the length and breadth of Goa such as Goa Gram Sampurna Yatra, Saimik Daiz Yatra, Dweep Parichay Yatra and Goa Giriarohan Yatra to reach out and connect to the people in the state.

Speaking on Bonsai Garden, the Governor said, Raj Bhavan boasts of a collection of 1008 Plants and soon it will be one of the biggest among Official Establishments/Administrative Institutes in India. The Governor appealed to the Students fraternity and the parents including teachers to visit and see the garden set up in the lawns of Raj Bhavan.

While complimenting the work of the Governor, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant said having 1008 rare species in Bonsai Garden is an unique project of Goa Raj Bhavan.

After commissioning the statues of Acharya Charaka and Sage Susruta at Raj Bhavan, Chief Minister informed that the statue of Sage Sushruta (Father of Surgery) is only on display at the renowned Royal Australian College of Surgeons, Melbourne.

The Chief Minister told that he has gone through the books penned by Acharya Charaka and Sage Susruta which has many chapters, describing various types of illnesses, medicinal plants and mineral preparations.

First Lady of Goa Smt. Rita Shreedharan Pillai also graced the occasion.

Chief Secretary Shri Dr. V. Candavelou, IAS, Shri Sanjeev C. Gauns Dessai, Secretary to Governor and others were also present.
