The office of the Collector, North, Deputy Collector (Disaster Management) have issued advisory on public safety on prevention of drowning incidents.
Accordingly the citizens are advised to observe the following safety measures such as do not enter swim, bathe or venture into rivers, canals, lakes, reservoirs, ponds, beaches, waterfalls or any other water body during the heavy rainfall, flooding or when water levels are high. Never attempt to cross flooded roads, bridges, causeways, culverts or submerged pathways. Even shallow flowing water can be extremely dangerous during rains.
Strictly obey warning signs, barricades, red flags and directions issued by Government authorities, police, disaster management authorities or local administration. Parents and guardians will ensure that children are never left unattended near water bodies. Avoid recreational activities such as boating, rafting, fishing, swimming or adventure sports unless specifically permitted and adequate safety arrangements are available.
Tourist are advised to visit only notified beaches and authorised water sport facilities and strictly follow all safety instructions issued by lifeguards and water sports operators. Wear Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS approved life jackets while travelling in boats or participating in authorized water based activities.
Do not consume alcohol or intoxicating substances before or during any activity near water bodies. Avoid visiting riverbanks, reservoirs, waterfalls and coastal areas during periods of heavy rainfall or when weather warnings have been issued.
Also urged to citizen to follow official weather forecasts and advisories on the sachet, mausam, meghdoot and damini apps and avoid unnecessary travel to flood-prone or waterlogged areas.
Dial 112 for emergency assistance if a person is in difficult or if you observe unsafe conditions and cooperate fully with Government authorities during evacuation, rescue or emergency response operations.
