Goan Reporter:APPLICATIONS INVITED FOR NATIONAL AWARDS FOR EMPOWERMENT OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India has opened the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal (www.awards.gov.in) for receiving online applications/nominations for the National Awards for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities for the year 2026.

These prestigious civilian awards, presented every year on   December 3rd  to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, honour individuals with disabilities and institutions for their outstanding achievements and contributions toward the empowerment and inclusion of Divyangjan.

The awards aim to encourage inclusive participation, highlight accomplishments across fields such as education, employment, innovation, social service, accessibility and promote the mainstreaming of persons with disabilities in society.

The online nomination process will remain open until   July 31,  2026. Nominations will be accepted exclusively through the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal at www.awards.gov.in.  Detailed guidelines are also available on the Department’s website: www.depwd.gov.in.

On behalf of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, the Department for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Porvorim  requested  all eligible individuals, NGOs, institutions, and stakeholders in the disability sector to apply or nominate deserving candidates.

Goan Reporter:CENTRE, STATE AND INDUSTRY STAKEHOLDERS DELIBERATE ON ADVANCING INDIA’S CLEAN ENERGY TRANSITION

The Global Wind Day Conference highlighting the critical role of wind power in strengthening energy security, driving economic growth and supporting environmental sustainability held in Goa.

Policymakers, industry leaders, developers, investors and energy experts came together to deliberate on the future of wind energy and explore strategies for accelerating India’s clean energy transition.

The Conference was organised by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) on the theme “Wind Energy: From Ambition to Acceleration,” the conference served as a platform for discussions on policy reforms, technological advancements and collaborative approaches required to unlock the next phase of growth in India’s wind energy sector.

Addressing the gathering, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Shri Pralhad Joshi said that India’s renewable energy sector has witnessed remarkable growth over the past decade, with wind and solar power emerging as key drivers of sustainable development. He noted that effective policies, quality infrastructure and strong implementation can help India emerge as a global leader in renewable energy.

Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shri Shripad Naik said that India has set ambitious clean energy targets and must accelerate efforts to expand the use of wind power while addressing transmission challenges.

Minister for New and Renewable Energy Shri Ramakrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar highlighted that wind energy is a clean, affordable and environmentally friendly source of power that is essential for a greener and more sustainable future.

During the conference, three e-books – Digital Commissioning Record, Advancing Wind Power in India and Elevating India’s Wind Turbine Exports for Global Markets were launched virtually. The occasion also witnessed the felicitation of distinguished personalities from the renewable energy sector for their contributions towards advancing clean energy initiatives in the country.

The conference concluded with a renewed commitment from stakeholders to strengthen collaboration, promote innovation and accelerate the expansion of wind energy across the country. Participants underscored the importance of supportive policies, robust infrastructure and sustained investment in achieving India’s clean energy goals and advancing the nation’s transition towards a sustainable and low-carbon future.

Among those present were Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy Shri Santosh Kumar Sarangi (IAS), Managing Director of Solar Energy Corporation of India Shri Akash Tripathi, Managing Director of GUVNL Smt. Shalini Agrawal, COO of Central Transmission Utility of India Limited Shri Kailash Kumar Gupta, Director General of AIDA and former Energy Secretary Shri Alok Kumar, Chief Engineer of CEA Shri Ishan Sharan, Chairman of IWTMA Shri Girish Tanti, Vice President of WIPPA Shri Mahesh Vipradas, Chairman of IWPA Shri T. Shivaraman, along with senior officials from the Central and State Governments and representatives of the renewable energy sector.

Goan Reporter:HANDING OVER CEREMONY OF MPLAD-FUNDED SCHOOL BUS TO BE HELD AT SIDDHARTH BANDODKAR SCHOOL ON JUNE 16

The Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant along with Shri Sadanand Shet Tanavade,   Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) will hand over the keys of school bus to the Management of Siddharth Bandodkar Higher Secondary School, Velguem, on June 16, 2026. Bus is procured under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS), Government of India.

Shri Ankit Yadav, IAS, Collector, North Goa will grace the occasion.

This will improve the transportation facilities to the students and will enhance access to education for those residing in surrounding areas and support their daily commute to the institution. This is a significant step towards strengthening educational access and student mobility in a remote part of Goa.

Rooted in the educational vision of Bhausaheb Bandodkar, the institution holds the distinction of being the only educational establishment of the Bandodkar Education Society in the State. Over the years, the school has played an important role in providing quality education to students from the region. The institution was further strengthened with the introduction of the Science stream during the tenure of Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, expanding academic opportunities beyond the existing Arts and Commerce streams. The newly procured bus, with a seating capacity of approximately 45 passengers, is expected to ease commuting challenges faced by students and support regular attendance.

The institution also shares a longstanding association with late Shri Manohar Parrikar, who had extended significant support to the school and unveiled the statue of Bhausaheb Bandodkar within the campus premises.
