Goan Reporter: Navelim Sporting Club Advance to Quarter-Finals of 52nd Custodio Memorial Tournament with 2-1 Win Over Shiroda YC

Navelim Sporting Club entered the quarter-finals of the 52nd Custodio Memorial Football Tournament with a well-earned 2-1 victory over Shiroda Youth Club. The match, organised by Raia Sporting Club, was held at the Panchayat ground in Raia on Saturday in front of an enthusiastic crowd of over 1,000 spectators. Navelim got off to a strong start, scoring twice within the first eight minutes. Rovan Pereira’s tricky footwork set up Noah Luis for the opening goal in the 5th minute, followed by a clinical finish from Rehan Sayed in the 8th. Shiroda’s Elias Colaco came close to pulling one back but missed narrowly, and Navelim went into half-time with a 2-0 lead. Despite increased pressure from Shiroda in the second half, Navelim’s defense remained solid. Royston Vaz managed to reduce the deficit with a goal in the 75th minute. In stoppage time, Navelim missed a one-on-one opportunity while Royston’s powerful free kick for Shiroda struck the post and was safely collected by the goalkeeper before referee Milagres Noronha blew the final whistle. The tournament, one of the oldest in the region, was officially inaugurated by Jacinta Dias, Sarpanch of VP Raia, in the presence of Luis C. Quadros, President of Raia Sporting Club, other dignitaries, and a large gathering of football fans. The ‘Man of the Match’ award was presented to Rehan Sayed of Navelim Sporting Club.
