The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has organized a Technical Session on the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 at the Auditorium Hall, Goa State Pollution Control Board, Saligao, Goa, with the objective of enhancing awareness among stakeholders regarding the implementation of the new Rules and highlighting the best practices adopted in the State of Goa for effective solid waste management.
The programme was graced by Dr. Levinson J. Martins, IAS, Chairman, Goa State Pollution Control Board, Dr. Geeta S. Nagvenkar, GCS, Member Secretary, Goa State Pollution Control Board, Dr. J. Chandra Babu, Regional Director, Central Pollution Control Board, Regional Directorate, Bengaluru and Shri Rohan Ghadi, Deputy Manager, Goa Waste Management Corporation, Saligao, Goa
Dr. Levinson J. Martins, IAS, Chairman, GSPCB, in his address emphasized the importance of scientific and sustainable waste management for environmental protection and public health. He highlighted the initiatives undertaken by the Government in establishing state-of-the-art infrastructure for the management of municipal solid waste, biomedical waste, hazardous waste, and Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs). He also stressed the need for active participation of all stakeholders, including Urban Local Bodies, Village Panchayats, industries, institutions, and the general public, to ensure the effective implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026.
Speaking on Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, Dr. J. Chandra Babu provided a comprehensive overview of the provisions of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, explaining the responsibilities of waste generators, local authorities, bulk waste generators, and other stakeholders.
Shri Rohan Ghadi spoke on the Best Practices in Implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 in the State of Goa. He showcased the best practices adopted in Goa for scientific waste management, including efficient collection and processing systems, operation of Material Recovery Facilities, scientific disposal of municipal solid waste, and the remediation of legacy waste dumpsites.
The technical session witnessed the participation of officials from Government Departments, Urban Local Bodies, Village Panchayats, industries, educational institutions, environmental professionals, and representatives from various stakeholder organizations.
The technical session was also conducted in hybrid mode, enabling participation from officials across the country through both physical and virtual platforms. In addition to the participants present at the venue, officials from various State Pollution Control Boards, including Odisha, Meghalaya, Karnataka, and Kerala, attended the programme virtually.
