First Feature Film ever in Archie comic history; Archies to India is a match made in heaven: Jon Goldwater, CEO, Archie Comics

The Archies aspires to transmit the innocence, naivety and friendship of the iconic Archie comic into two-hour long narrative for today’s young generation, said the six times Filmfare award winner Director Zoya Akhtar at an ‘In Conversation’ session on ‘The Archies – Made in India’ held yesterday at 54th IFFI, in Goa.

Talking about the challenges of adapting a comic story into a film, Zoya Akhtar explained that catching the essence and nuances of the Archie comic, considering its huge success, and making it into a great cinematic experience for the audience was very challenging. “It was a large part of my childhood. The characters are iconic and globally loved, and bringing a film that fuels the nostalgia of a generation that grew up on the comic and yet resonates with the young adults of today, gives a whole new experience in scriptwriting’’.

Jon Goldwater, CEO, Archie Comic, said, “it’s a huge source of pride that the Archie Comics’ characters and stories resonate with fans globally, and especially  in India, for more than 50 years. The filmmakers kept the integrity and authenticity of each fictional characters intact throughout the film. The Archie team in New York are very much proud of the film’’.

Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh, Director of Content, Netflix India said “this is a big moment for Netflix India where we get a global franchise by doing first ever feature film in the history of Archie comics. It is a cultural film coming out of India which will also connect to the global audience’.

The Archies is an Indian adaptation of the iconic comic series ‘The Archies;’ it is set in the fictional hilly town of Riverdale, in the 1960’s India where a group of teenagers wrestle with love, heartache, friendship and rebellion. The musical film is scheduled to be released on Netflix on December 7, 2023.

Vedika Karkal Miss Goa

19-year-old Vedika Karkal, from Ponda is Miss Goa 2022. The beauty and brains is a 2nd year BBA student of Dempo College of Management, Panaji. She was crowned at a glittering pageant, held at Pride Sun Village Resort, Arpora. Vedika said, “Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off the goal.”

And her goal to win led her straight to her crowning moment. She faced stiff competition from the other contestants, but after putting in the hours of grooming, the hard work, paid off eventually, she said.

Born in Panjim, she credits her parents for teaching her ‘never to take the focus off the larger objectives in life.’ Says the vividly elated Vedika, “While I aim for the skies, the values, I’m brought up with will always ensure that my feet are always grounded. It is that very belief and value system which we believe in & practice in daily life, is that made me stand out and win this Miss Goa title.”

And she is determined to work hard and ‘keep the name of Goa, Stellar Miss Goa & my family high at National and International pageants.’

ALLOW THE CHILD TO THINK FOR INNOVATION: JOSE NORONHA

Panaji: August 9, 2018 .. Chairman of Goa Public Service Commission and Goa State Innovation Council Shri Jose Manuel Noronha has said that for innovation to work, we should allow the child to think.

 Delivering the key note address at the training programme conducted for teachers from North and South Goa on Innovation and Start up at Sanksruti Bhavan ,Panaji today Shri Noronha said it is important for teachers to encourage the students and also they should motivate the students to think .It is the dreamers who achieve the highest success in life  he added. He opined that in today’s world, teachers are more of a guide and that all the successful innovators became successful because they follow the principles like “Do what you love and be perfect in what you do” .He also felt that if Students learn to love our country and love the environment, success for the country is guaranteed.

Also present on the occasion were Shri Raghuveer Vernekar, Chairman GCCI-Edu.com,Shri Nagraj Honnekeri, Director, SCERT, Gajanan Nagarsekar,Founder Kallows Eng.Pvt.Ltd, Smt Suwarna Surlekar,Founder Codewell Computers,Smt Shalini Menezes,Founder Sim Sim Law Consultants and Shri D.S Prashant,Member Goa  State Innovation Council.

The participants were enlightened on various topics such as Understanding Creativity, Introduction to INSPIRE-MANEK Award, how to set up innovative company, idea generation by students, Intellectual property-Today’s Need.

Shri Tushar Sawant compered the function, while Shri Sudip Fal Dessai, Project Officer, Goa State Innovation Council proposed the vote of thanks.
