EDUCATION SHOULD NOT BE WITHIN FOUR WALLS OF SCHOOLS-CM

Panaji: February 3,2016 … The Chief Minister Shri Laxmikant Parsekar has said that education should just not be within the four walls of schools but should be encouraged to learn from our surrounding nature and far beyond the books. The  surrounding world has the scope  to learn a lot, he added.

Shri Parsekar was speaking as Chief Guest at Regional Recognition Award Ceremony organized by CPR Environmental Education Center Chennai in collaboration with Goa State Council for Science and Technology at Goa Science Center, Miramar, today.

Shri Parsekar further said that awareness on environmental issues among students is the need of the hour and those working in these areas for this sake are doing a commendable job. Conservation of environment is must for our future generation. Proper education in the minds of this young generation about preservation of water and biodiversity is essential for the survival of human race. He congratulated the recipients of Regional Recognition Awards.   

The Chief Scientist of Goa State Council for Science and Technology in his address remarked that the School students from rural areas have done extremely well in their performance in their projects on Water and Biodiversity. This idea will help to develop awareness among the students

Wipro Earthian 2015 programme involves innovative project submissions on sustainability of water and biodiversity by group of students guided by a teacher, through the expertise of Dr. Joseph De Souza and Bolmax Pereira. It was created in promoting environmental thinking among the school going children through personal interaction.

The Chief Minister Shri Laxmikant Parsekar released three resource books  authored by Dr. Joseph D’Souza  the Chief Scientist of Goa State Council of Science and Technology. The names of the books were  Overview of Remote Sensing, GIS and GPS;  Manual for mapping and Surveying and Concepts of Integrated Coastal Zone management.

In Wipro Earthian 2015,   46 projects were qualified for consideration from the participating schools from Goa out of which  9 projects were short listed as Regional Winners-2015. Those schools are Harmal Panchakroshi Higher Secondary School Harmal, Poira High School Poira,  Bardez,  Mahalaxmi High School Kudne, Hedgewar High School Bambolim St;  St.Cruz High School St.Cruz Tiswadi, Our Lady of Perpetual High School Succor Bardez. The three other Schools from Karwar District of Karnataka are  New English High School, Hindu High School and  Government High School Karwar were selected for Regional Recognition Award and were awarded at the hands of Chief Minister Shri Parsekar.

Poira High School Poira from North Goa District was selected for the National Winners  of Earthian 2015 and will receive award of  Rs. one lakh for its project from the 1200 national entries at a national programme at new Delhi on February 5,2016.

The nine participating teachers were awarded Regional Recognition Certificates and Memento for their dedication and excellence.

Dr. Joseph DeSouza was also conferred Environment Excellence Award at the hands of Chief Minister Shri Parsekar.

Dr. R. Sudhakar, Director, of CPREEC honoured the Chief Minister Shri Parsekar by presenting him citation and shawl on this occasion. 

Dr.Balaji Coordinator Goa Science Centre, Staff of CPREEC, Students of various Schools, Teachers of and others attended the programme.
