In a gesture symbolizing care for creation and environmental responsibility, His Eminence Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrao led a Jubilee Year Tree Plantation drive on 4th July at 12:15 PM at the Santa Monica Farm, Old Goa. He was joined by Auxiliary Bishop Simiao Fernandes and several other priests of the Archdiocese of Goa, in a meaningful celebration of faith, creation, and hope.
Speaking at the occasion, Cardinal Ferrao remarked,
“Jubilee year calls us to be signs of hope… to the Mother Earth,”
highlighting the Church’s mission to respond to the cry of the earth, as inspired by Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’.
Auxiliary Bishop Simiao Fernandes echoed this sentiment, urging all faithful to take active responsibility in protecting and preserving nature.
“We are stewards of creation; each one of us must care for our common home,” he affirmed.
The event was coordinated and organized by Fr. Mario Souza, Assistant to the Administrator of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman. The plantation marked a continued effort in the Archdiocese’s Jubilee Year celebrations, blending spiritual renewal with ecological commitment.
This tree plantation initiative not only enhances the green cover but also reflects the Archdiocese’s commitment to sustainable living and ecological awareness among its faithful.
