MLA Aleixo Lourenco raised serious concern over the plight of Goans in the United States, particularly in Texas, who are unable to return to India due to expired Indian passports. He stated that the Indian Consulate in Houston is allegedly denying travel documents, despite individuals presenting their expired passports as proof of nationality. The consulate is reportedly demanding excessive documentation, making the process difficult and stressful for stranded Goans. Lourenco urged the Government of Goa to take up the matter with the Central Government, especially the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), to intervene immediately, simplify the documentation process, and facilitate timely issuance of emergency travel documents. He also stressed the need to ensure that affected Goans can return without fear of legal action or hardship
