Shri Mauvin Godinho, Minister for Transport  handed over 10  Speed Portable Speed Radar Guns to Police Department  today at Seminar Hall Secretariat Porvorim. Addressing the media, Shri Mauvin Godinho said Transports department is working on various things to instill discipline on the road and this portable Speed Radar Guns will help in identifying of over speeding vehicles. Raising the concern over rise of death due to road accident he informed that in 2022 there were 3007 road accidents and 251 people died. Rash driving and over speeding is the major cause of these road accidents. Despite increase in fine in new motor vehicle act but still high fines are not a deterrent as people are still breaking the traffic rules he added.

From 1stJune, Artificial intelligence used cameras installed by the PWD department will be operational. Briefing about the features of the speed radar he said it is high Definition Camera, that will automatically capture clear video and images with Automatic Number Plate recognition of over speeding vehicles in upto 200 Meters in Day time and upto 100 meters in Night time using Infrared technology on High Security Number Plate .He further informed that Training has been imparted to user Department (Police) and second round of training will be provided upon few days of use of equipment’s for understanding advance features in the month of June. Shri Godinho said that the department is moving forward to put new signages and are also in the process of procuring 70 alcometer and breath analyzers .He also urged the citizen to cooperate and said Safety and saving life is our first concern.

Shri Subhash Chandra IAS, Secretary to Transport, Shri Rajan Satardekar, Director of Transport, SP (Traffic) Shri Dharmesh Angle, SP North (Traffic), Shri Sudesh Narvekar, Dy. SP (Traffic) HQ were also present on the occasion.

Shri Sanjeev Taneja gave introduction and welcome Demo on LaserTrac. LaserTrac can electronically upload violation photos with evidence data over Internet to backend server, NIC-ITMS and local paperless delivery to violators over SMS. It features High resolution QLED touch screen display, GPS for location with Map, inbuilt Lithium rechargeable battery for 6 to 8 hours of operation per change and lightweight Tripod with padded carry bags for portable convenience.
