District Magistrate and District Election Officer, South Goa District, Margao has ordered that from 06.00 pm of May 05, 2024 to 10.00 pm of May 07, 2024 in the jurisdiction of South Goa District, Margao, a ban on unlawful assembly and any procession or rally shall be prohibited to prevent any nuisance and law and order problem; DM has further ordered that no loud speaker shall be permitted to be used for the purpose of elections and that vehicles permitted to all contesting candidates by the Returning Officers for campaigning shall not ply on roads to avoid any distribution of money or gifts or liquor and to prevent any nuisance and law and order problems except vehicles authorized by the Returning Officers on the day of poll. DM has ordered that all private vehicles shall be checked in dignified manner as per rules to avoid their misuse for distribution of money or gifts or liquor and for causing any nuisance also to avoid any harassment to private persons.
The order further states no liquor shops, hotels, restaurants, clubs and other establishments selling/ serving liquor, should be permitted to sell/ serve liquor to anyone whosoever, on the aforesaid days, and on timings mentioned therein. Non proprietary clubs, star hotels, restaurants, etc. and hotels run by anyone even if they are issued different categories of licenses for possession and supply of liquor shall also not be permitted to sell/ serve liquor on these days, and on timings mentioned therein.
The order shall not apply to officers authorized on Election Duty by the District Election Officer, South Goa District or the State Government including the polling officials, magistrates, police officials and government staff.
Failure to comply shall result in cancellation of licenses and the owner or offender shall be liable for penal action under section 188 of Indian Penal Code, 1908, Section 30 of the Excise Duty Act, 1964 and other relevant provisions of laws in force.
