Goan Reporter News: FDA Imposes Penalty on Food Business Operators

Directorate of Food and Drugs has informed that the then Adjudicating Officer have disposed off, three cases in which food business operators have been imposed with penalties for manufacturing and selling sub-standard food items.

In one case filed by Food Safety Officer; Smt. Ankita Palyekar, fine of Rupees One Lakh was imposed on (1) ADANI WILMAR LIMITED, Village-Malegaon, Tehsil- Saoner, District-Nagpur, Maharashtra, for manufacturing and selling ‘Fortune Plus + Soya Health Refined Soya Bean Oil’, which was declared “Sub-Standard”, on analysis by the Food Analyst due to the Vitamin A (4.25 µg RE/gm) and Vitamin D (<0.05 ug/gm) content were below the prescribed limit.

Second case filed by Food Safety Officer, Smt. Ankita Palyekar, a fine of Rs. 5000/-, imposed on Jabbarsingh V. Rajpurohit, M/s. Rajpurohit Sweet Mart, Shop No. 2, Pandeva Appartments, Aquem Salcete- Goa, for manufacturing and selling ‘Papdi, Kharegati, & Bhavnagri Shev, which were declared as “Sub-Standard”, on analysis due to the presence of Fat (ODB) 47.52%, 53.17%, 52.49% respectively which was more than the permissible limit as per IS 15271; 2013.

Third case fine of Rs.30,000/- was filed by Food Safety Officer, Smt Shruti Pilarnekar, for manufacturing and selling substandard food. It was imposed on Respondents (1) Shri. Chaganlal Borana, (Food Business Operator) M/s. Sanman Sweets, Shop No.44, Apna Bazar, Vasco-Da-Gama, Mormugao, Goa and ( Shri. Babulal Borana, (Food Business Operator) M/s. Sanman Sweets, Shop No.44 Apna Bazar, Vasco-Da-Gama, Mormugao, Goa, for manufacturing and selling ‘Gathi (Loose)’, which was declared “Sub-Standard’, on analysis as it contains Fat (ODB) 52.59% which is in excess of quantity specified by regulations and does not comply IS 15271:2013, as informed by the Department of Information and Publicity.
