Goan Reporter News: Goan sportspersons should take inspiration from National Games – Bicholim MLA Dr. Chandrakant Shetye

Bicholim MLA Dr. Chandrakant Shetye on Friday inaugurated the Billiards and Snooker disciplines at Peddem Sports Complex for the 37th National Games.

Mapusa municipality chairperson Smt Priya Mishal was also present along with other dignitaries.

Speaking at the programme, Dr. Shetye said that the Games is an ideal platform for young sportspersons to take inspiration.

“Goan sportspersons should take inspiration from this Games. The State and Central governments have spent so much money to upgrade the infrastructure for the 37th National Games in Goa, so they should make the best use of it. Sports enthusiasts are getting an opportunity to witness various sports disciplines live. Many of our Goans have also participated,” he said.

“The Prime Minister yesterday said that the budget for sports used to be Rs 8000 crore but after 2014, the Central Government has tripled the outlay. Our government is very serious about sports, earlier it used to be taken lightly. The government is working to support sportspersons,” he said.

True to the motto ‘Get, Set, Goa’, Dr. Shetye said that he is happy to see the Games happening in the state.

“The National Games is the highest platform in the country and is a launchpad for participating in international events. Many talented youngsters can represent the state. They can reach the international level for which they should aim for. Sportspersons should be very serious about it. We should all participate in sport it helps one make decisions in life, how to be clear about it, and future planning.
