Goan Reporter News: Martyrs’ day observed

Floral tributes were paid on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day at Azad Maidan, today. Governor, P.S Sreedharan Pillai and Chief Minister, Dr Pramod Sawant led the State in paying homage to the freedom fighters who laid down their lives fighting for the freedom of our nation.

The armed forces personnel sounded the Last Post. A two-minute silence was observed in memory of the martyrs for their sacrifice.

Minister for Power and Housing, Ramkrishna Sudin Dhavalikar, Chief Secretary, Puneet Kumar Goel, IAS, Principal Secretary, Finance, Shri Dr V.Candavelou, IAS, Collector and District Magistrate, North, Dr. Sneha Gitte, IAS, DGP, Jaspal Singh, IPS were among those present on the occasion.

January 30 is remembered as Martyr’s Day or Hutatama Diwas in memory of Mahatma Gandhi who was assassinated on this day in 1948.
