Sporting Club of Davorlim made a strong statement in their opening game of the 34th Super Soccer Football Tournament, clinching a tense 1-0 win over Cuncolim Union at the Benaulim Panchayat Ground. The decisive moment arrived in just the 4th minute when William Niasso stunned the Cuncolim defence with a precise finish, giving Davorlim an early lead. From then on, Davorlim switched to a possession-heavy approach, aiming to hold their advantage. Cuncolim Union bounced back strongly in the second half, launching relentless attacks in search of an equalizer. However, veteran goalkeeper Joaquim Figueredo stood tall with a string of crucial saves to deny them. Davorlim’s front trio — Niasso, Alent Colaco, and the lively Melchior Miranda — constantly troubled the Cuncolim backline with their pace and creativity. Miranda’s dynamic performance on both ends of the pitch earned him the Man of the Match award, presented by GFA Referees’ Head, Melwin D’Costa.
