Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has informed of the withdrawal of the Office Memorandum issued by them earlier which stated that issuance of certificates by Government Departments could be considered under the purview of Section 7 of the Aadhaar Act, as such certificates are used for determining eligibility for benefits, subsidies and services.
The communiqué further clarifies that the withdrawal shall operate prospectively and without any prejudice to actions already taken under the earlier Office Memorandum and that the withdrawal pertains only to the use of Section 7 of the Aadhaar Act in relation to issuance of certificates by the Government. It also further states that Aadhaar authentication or Aadhaar-based requirements should not be insisted upon for issuance of certificates merely on the basis of the withdrawn Office Memorandum.
