Panaji : January 06, 2026 ::The Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) handed over demonstration Biogas Plant based on kitchen and organic waste to the Shri Vijaykumar Natekar, Chairperson of the Bicholim Municipal Council. The handover ceremony was held at the Office of the Managing Director, GEDA. The demonstration biogas plant has been installed as a pilot initiative to promote decentralized waste management and renewable energy solutions. The plant is capable of processing 1 kg to 50 kg of kitchen waste per day and produces biogas suitable for cooking purposes along with nutrient-rich organic manure, thereby reducing the quantity of organic waste being disposed of in landfills. On the occasion, Shri Vijaykumar Natekar stated that the initiative supports the vision of the Bicholim Municipal Council towards achieving a “Zero Waste” objective by encouraging segregation and scientific treatment of organic waste at the source. Shri Gourish A. Pilgaonkar, Managing Director, GEDA, stated that the demonstration plant highlights the potential of kitchen waste as a valuable resource for clean energy generation. He further added that such decentralized biogas systems are suitable for adoption in households, residential complexes, institutions, hotels, hospital canteens, and restaurants etc. Shri Sanjeev Joglekar, Member Secretary, GEDA, informed that processing organic waste at the source reduces transportation costs and greenhouse gas emissions while contributing to the production of renewable energy and organic manure. The programme concluded with a live demonstration of the biogas plant, highlighting its operational features and environmental benefits.
