Department of Handicrafts, Textile and Coir (HT&C) is implementing various schemes aimed at strengthening traditional handicrafts and supporting artisans in Goa.
Under the Vishwakarma Kaushal Yojana, the department conducts basic training programmes in trades including powerloom and handloom weaving, batik printing, carpentry, tailoring and embroidery, coir spinning and weaving, bamboo craft, pottery, doll and soft-toy making and other village crafts. The scheme seeks to upgrade skills, build the capacity of semi-skilled trainees and create employment opportunities.
The Swavalamban Yojana for Handicraft Artisans provides handholding support to traditional artisans through assistance with raw materials, tools and equipment. It also sponsors artisans to participate in trade fairs, exhibitions and events at the State, national and international levels.
The Mukhyamantri Hastakala Adhunikaran Yojana promotes the handicrafts, textile and coir sectors by providing subsidies for advanced machinery and equipment. Individual beneficiaries can receive a subsidy up to 75 per cent on the equipment cost or maximum of Rs. 5,00,000/- whichever is less. Assistance available for eligible SC/ST beneficiaries is 90% subsidy or maximum upto Rs. 5,00,000/- whichever is less. Subsidy is available for certain artisan groups, societies and self-help groups.
The schemes are intended to improve production capacity, encourage self-employment and strengthen the livelihoods of traditional artisans in Goa.
