Panaji: February 09, 2026:The Central Sector Scheme “National Means-cum-Merit Scholarships Scheme (NMMSS)” is being implemented by the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India to award scholarship to the meritorious students of economically weaker section to arrest their dropout at Class-VIII and to encourage them to continue study at Secondary stage. Under this scheme, a scholarship amount of Rs. 12,000/- per annum is awarded to each qualified student at Class-IX which may continue up to Class-XII depending on the fulfillment of prescribed conditions. Total number of Scholarship available for Goa State is 144.This examination is meant only for the students of Government, Government Aided and Local body schools studying in Class-VIII in the academic year 2025-26. But only the students whose parents total annual income from all sources does not exceed Rs. 3.5 lakh and have obtained at least 55% marks or equivalent grade in Class-VII examination (relax able by 5% for SC/ST) are eligible to appear at the NMMSS Examination 2025-26 to be conducted by Goa State Council of Educational Research & Training (GSCERT), Alto-Porvorim on March 1st, 2026.The last date to submit nomination of students for NMMSS Examination 2025-26 by the Head of Schools is February 14th, 2026.
