Goan Reporter: St Anthony SC Assolda Edge Past Navelim Sporting in Penalty Thriller to Reach Semifinals

St Anthony SC Assolda booked their place in the semifinals of the 52nd Custodio Memorial Football Tournament with a dramatic 7–6 win over Navelim Sporting Club via a penalty shootout at the Raia Panchayat Ground on Friday.

The match kicked off with Navelim’s Jayson Coutinho getting an early chance in the 6th minute, but his shot went off target. Just minutes later, Cajetan Fernandes of St Anthony SC Assolda launched a quick counterattack but narrowly missed scoring in the 10th minute.

Navelim Sporting broke the deadlock in the 35th minute through Roland Pereira, who found the net with a fine glancing header.

St Anthony SC Assolda regrouped after the break and equalised in the 46th minute through a well-placed shot by Moises D’Sa, making it 1–1.

With no further goals in regulation time, the match went into a penalty shootout. St Anthony SC Assolda held their composure to win 7–6 in the tense tiebreaker.

Chief guest Dr. Errol Rodrigues presented the Man of the Match award to Richard Fernandes of St Anthony SC Assolda for his standout performance.
