SHRIPAD INAUGURATES LOKOTSAV 19

Margao:  December 10, 2018 … Union Minister of State for Ayush(Ind),  Shri Sripad Naik Inaugurated the “Lokotsav 19” – two day event organized by Adarsh Yuva Sangh and Balaram Education Institute in association with the Department of Art and Culture Government of Goa at Amone Poinguin, Canacona in the distinguished presence of Local MLA, Shri Isidore Fernandes; ZD member, Dr. (Smt.) Puspa Ayya, General Manager, NABARD Smt. Kamaxi Pai and others yesterday.

Other dignitaries present on the occasion were Ex. Minister and MLA Shri Ramesh Tawadkar; President of Balalram Education Society, Shri Arjun Gaonkar; Acting principle of Balalram Education High School, Shri Kamalakar Mhalshi; Sarpanchas of Shristal, Poingunim, Loliem and Agonda  alongwith panch members.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Naik said he is very happy to associate with such type of programmes where our traditional culture are showcased and added that one should encourage this type of activities to keep the tradition and our culture alive.

Shri Naik further urged the youths to come forward to organize such types of programme in all the rural areas of the State to ensure the youth’s involvement and development of village. The motive behind this type of programme is to make every youth independent, he said.

Lokotsav is a good example to create awareness and to showcase our traditional culture and our lifestyle to the outside world and added that the various natural dishes prepared and displayed by the local people, self help group is the way to acquire knowledge and to pass it on the coming generations, he said.

Traditional games are slowly disappearing and we need to start them.  These games not only provided entertainment but helped up to remain healthy, he pointed.

Congratulating the organizer of “Lokotsav 19” Shri Naik urged the tribal communities to come together to save our culture. Organic farming need to be encouraged to control diseases developed through use of fertilizers. Various schemes provided by Government to promote organic farming should be apprised to the people at such lokotsav’s, he remarked.

MLA, Shri Isidore Fernandes, Shri Tawadkar and Smt. Kamaxi Pai also spoke on the occasion.

ARMED FORCES FLAG DAY OBSERVED AT RAJ BHAVAN

Panaji, December 09, 2018 … Department of Sainik Welfare, Panaji observed annual Armed Forces Flag Day at Raj Bhavan recently. The Armed Forces Flag Day or the Flag Day of India is a day dedicated towards the collection of funds from people of India for the welfare of the Indian Armed Forces personnel. It has been observed annually in India on December 7 since 1949.

 Governor Dr. Smt. Mridula Sinha, Chief Secretary Shri. Dharmendra Sharma IAS, DGP Shri. Muktesh Chander IPS, Commandant HQ 2 STC Brig. A.K. Sharma and Secretary of Department of Sainik Welfare (DSW) Major. Venugopal Nair(Retd) was present on the occasion.  

 In her address to the gathering, the Governor congratulated the Sainik Welfare Department and its staff for working towards the betterment of ex-servicemen in the state. “We must have the feeling of gratitude towards the armed forces. It is because of them, that we can live a peaceful life. However, being a patriot is also equally important. We must inculcate this feeling among young children; only then we can imagine about a powerful India,” the Governor said. She also appreciated the proposed initiative of a retirement home for abandoned defense veterans and widows and veer naris

The program began with Major. Venugopal Nair(Retd) giving an outline about projects planned by the DSW for the ex-servicemen in the state. “An old age home for abandoned veterans, veer naris and widows is an upcoming project undertaken by the DSW with the help of NGOs and the Government. In the current year 2018, many activities were undertaken in villages of Goa to understand the grievances of families of ex-servicemen and to encourage youth to join defense forces. All the activities gained a huge response from the public,” Major Nair informed.

The Governor distributed awards to Government departments for collecting highest funds towards Sainik Welfare. The 1st place was bagged by Commissioner of Excise, 2nd – Directorate of Education and 3rd – Directorate of Panchayat who also bagged the ‘Ummid se Jyada’ puraskar given for exceeding the collection target.

Smt. Usha Nevrekar proposed the vote of thanks. The function was attended by ex-servicemen and their families, senior Govt. officials among others.

Parrikar’s PAs’ are running Goa Govt, Ordering Ministers, Misleading People: Chodankar

Panaji: 8th December 2018 … Speaking at the taluka-wise agitation ‘Jan Akrosh’ at Pernem in North Goa, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar claimed that Manohar Parrikar’s PAs’ are running the government and ordering ministers around.
“The PAs of the unwell CM are signing crucial documents and making noting on the files claiming that ‘verbal approval of the CM’ has been taken. Chodankar said even BJP Ministers are being taken for a ride by the PAs who do not have the constitutional right to take such decisions.,” said Chodankar.
Chodankar warned that the Congress would move the appropriate courts over the decisions taken by these PAs. These decisions are illegal and we want to warn the concerned officials and bureaucrats not to sign on any decisions which may seem questionable.
The launch program of the Goa Congress taluka-wise agitation ‘Jan Akrosh’ was launched by AICC secretary and Goa desk in-charge Dr A Chellakumar along with Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar and former CM Digambar Kamat at Pernem on Thursday.
Present at the function were several senior Goa Congress leaders including Dr A Chellakumar, GPCC President Girish Chodankar, former CM Digambar Kamat senior Congress leader M K Shaikh, former Minister Sangeeta Parab, PCC member Subhash Kerker, Goa Congress North District President Vijay Bhike, former Union Minister Ramakant Khalap, Mahila Congress leaders Adv Diya Shetkar, Muktamala Fondvekar, Panjim Block President Prasad Amolkar and several others.
Speaking at the function, GPCC President Girish Chodankar said Parrikar’s PAs and assistants were running the government and were dictating terms to Ministers and other senior government officials. “There is a complete failure of the administrative machinery in the State. Land conversion is happening on a suitcase to suitcase basis, Chodankar said, referring to the ‘case-to-case’ conversion of land by the TCP department.”
Goa desk-in-charge Dr A Chellakumar said the BJP government both in the State and the Centre has mislead the people of Goa and India. Demonetization and GST were some of the biggest blunders of the BJP government. Parrikar mislead the people of Goa in 2012 by stating that there was a Rs 35,000 crore mining scam. Till date Parrikar has not been able to recover a single paisa from the so-called mining-scam,” Chellakumar said.
The agitation ‘Jan Akrosh’ which was launched from the Pernem bus stand will conclude at the historical Lohia Maidan on Liberation Day, December 19.
“Congress in Goa has been demanding for a full time Chief Minister for the last several months. We have met the Governor on six occasions. Huge protests was also organised from Campal to Azad Maidan which culminated in the public meeting. Congress had organised a ‘Century without CM’ on completion of 100 days of the absence of Manohar Parrikar apart from organizing various programmes,” Chodankar said.
After Pernem, the agitation will be held at Mapusa on December 7, December 8 in Bicholim, December 9 in Quepem, December 10 at Sanguem, December 12 in Valpoi, December 13 in Panaji, December 15 in Mormugao and December 19 in Margao.

INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES TO BE CELEBRATED ON DECEMBER 8

Panaji : December 08, 2018 … International Day for Persons with Disabilities is being celebrated on December 3, throughout the world. In Goa, December 3, being a public holiday on account of St. Francis Xavier’s Feast at Old Goa, it will be celebrated on December 8, 2018, from 10.00 a.m. onwards at Conference Hall, Ravindra Bhavan, Margao Goa.

            To mark the occasion, disability aids and appliances will be distributed to people. Also, competitions such as fancy dress, folk dance and Cultural Programme will be held for students.

APPLICATIONS INVITED FOR HANDICRAFT AND FOOD STALLS FOR LOKOTSAV – 2019

Panaji::: December 07, 2018 … Directorate of  Art and Culture, in association with West Zone Cultural  Centre, Udaipur, Kala Academy – Goa and other Government agencies will be organizing annual National Folk Festival Lokotsav from January 11 to January 20, 2019, at Darya Sangam, Kala Academy Complex, Campal, Panaji. About 500 to 600 craft persons and traditional food vendors from various states of India and also from the State of Goa will put up their stalls to showcase and sell their Handicrafts, Handlooms, Traditional Jewellery Items, Cuisines etc. during the festival period.

In this regards, applications are invited from interested Goan craftspersons and Self Help Groups having the handicraft artist card/license and producing the Handicraft, Handlooms, Traditional Jewellery etc.for putting up their stalls for the Lokotsav festival.

Applications are also invited from the Goan Self Help Group, Agencies, and Individuals for putting up the Food Stall of Packed and Non-packed Food items such as Traditional Goan/Indian Recipes, Goan Traditional Snacks etc. during the festival.

The Registration charges for handicraft and food stalls will be Rs. 2000/- each. The stalls will be on sharing basis and the charges will be shared accordingly. Garbage charges of Rs. 500/- per day (i.e. Rs. 5,000/- for ten days) will be charged for Goan Served Food Stalls. Served Food Stalls from outside Goa will be charged Rs. 1000/- per day (i.e. Rs. 10,000/- for ten days) as garbage charges. The same has to be paid at the time of allotment of stalls.

Limited numbers of applications forms will be available at the Directorate of Art and Culture, Sanskruti Bhavan, Patto from December 10 to December 14, 2018, on first come first serve basis. The duly filled forms will have to be submitted to the department strictly on or before December 20, 2018. Late applications will not be entertained.  These application forms are only for Goan handicraft and food stall vendors. Application from other states will not be entertained.

HOME GUARDS AND CIVIL DEFENCE CAN PLAY IMPORTANT ROLE IN CREATING AWARENESS OF ROAD SAFETY SAYS DGP.

Panaji, December 6, 2018 … Home guard and Civil Defence can play an important role in creating awareness of not only Road Safety but also all kind of safety to entire society at large said Dr. Muktesh Chander, IPS, Director General of Police. He was speaking as the chief guest at the Annual Raising day function of Home guards and Civil Defence organisation held at Police Head Quarters,Panjim today.

Dr Chander congratulated Home Guard and civil Defence for their excellent work and said that Home guard is a voluntary organisation and contribution of Home guard can be witness everywhere in Goa more specifically in traffic management .As modern day challenges are increasing, there is need to provide adequate training to Home guard and civil defence volunteers to deal with various kind of new type of disasters which may occur.

Dr. Chander further said that in order to maintain communal harmony civil defence has always been playing an important role .Dr Chander also appealed to home guard volunteers to participate in Traffic Sentinel Scheme and also follow traffic rules.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Dhanraj Govekar, Deputy Commandant General of Home guards and Civil Defence briefed about the history and role played by home guards and civil defence  .He informed that Home guard and civil deference organization has been providing valuable assistant to the local police in maintenance of law and order, traffic regulation, VIP security duties. Every year home guards are specially deployed to assist police during Christmas and New Year in order to maintain law and order and to prevent any terror attack in the state and they are doing a commendable job he added. Shri Govekar also congratulated Smt Radhika Rajan Halarnkar, Honorary Sergeant (HG) and Shri Uday Nagappa Kuri, Civil Defence Volunteer who has been awarded President’s Home Guards & Civil Defence Medal for their meritorious service on the occasion of Independence Day 2018.

SKIT ON ‘SAVE THE GIRL CHILD ‘ ON DOORDARSHAN

The 1st prize winning skit performed by SS Angle Higher  Secondary School, Maxem – Canacona will be telecasted on Doordarshan Kendra, Panaji on December 8, 2018 at 4.10 p.m. The skit has been written and Directed by Shri. Kavindra Phal Desai.

MOCK DRILL AT BPCL BOTTLING PLANT ON DEC 13

Margao:  December 05, 2018 … The District Magistrate and Chairperson of South Goa District Crisis Group, Dr. Tariq Thomas have decided to conduct the mock drill at the bottling plant of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd., Verna Industrial Estate, Verna on December 13, 2018 between 10.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. as a part of the planned drills to be conducted in all the Major Accidental Hazardous Units (MAH) in South Goa this year.

The South District Magistrate, Dr. Tariq Thomas chairing a preparatory meeting of all the line agencies at Collectorate today stressed the need to conduct such drills with full evacuation of the entire areas likely to be affected to provide the much required confidence to handle real life situation and improvise on all the shortcomings, if any.

Dr. Thomas underscored the importance of response time of the stakeholders to attend emergency situations apart from ensuring that the SOPs are followed to the extent possible to oversee the effectiveness of the off-site emergency plan.

The drill is planned to check the response and capabilities of the various departments and agencies in the district to undertake emergency operations in the event of occurrence of such an accident.

It may be informed that the South Goa District Crisis Group have successfully conducted such drills in four of the  8 Major Accidental Hazardous Units (MAH) in South Goa this year to create awareness among the residents of the locality on how to take safety measures and prepare themselves during such incidences.

The industrialists and general public are informed that the traffic in and around Plot No M-19 to M35 in Phase II-B would be diverted through the appropriate by-lanes during the aforesaid time on the given day and appealed for co-operation with the authorities.
