DIABETIC RETINOPATHY PROJECT LAUNCHED.

Panaji: July 6, 2016 …. Department of  Ophthalmology, Goa Medical College, in collaboration with Public Health foundation of India Hyderabad and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust  recently launched a Diabetic Retinopathy Project, a project directed  towards reducing avoidable blindness across common wealth countries.

Mr. Sudhir, Mahajan, Principal Secretary, was the  Chief Guest. He urged the people of Goa  to take care in maintaining good diabetic control on an attempt to reduce diabetic induced various organ  damage. He  insisted on regular eye checkup which may save diabetic patient from severe visual loss. He also stressed upon regular exercise on a routine healthy away of living.

Dr. Sanjeev Dalvi, Director of Health services, was the guest of  Honour. He assured of his complete participation in the programme and its implementation to maximum benefits to the diabetic patient across the state..

The project is being funded by Queen Elizabeth diamond jubilee trust  under which Department will be upgraded with multiple  state of art newer diagnostic equipments for benefit of treatment and management of diabetic patients.

Dr. Vivek S. Naik, Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Goa Medical College proposed the vote of thanks.

GOVERNOR ENROLLS YOUNG CHILDREN AS “LITTLE POLICE”

Panaji: July 5, 2016 …. The Governor of Goa Smt. Mridula Sinha enrolled young children under the “Little Police” Scheme, implemented by Police Department at a function held at Raj Bhavan today.

The objective of the scheme is to make the young children better citizens of the country by imparting knowledge on the police functioning 

The scheme which came into force from last year has earned recognition at national level  and also won Smart Policy Award by FCCI

Goa is the 1st State to implement this scheme. Children from all over the schools of Goa have been selected as “Little Police” by the Goa Police Dept.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor complimented the efforts of Goa Police for implementing such a rare scheme for young children. She said it is an opportunity for the children to learn lot t of things such as how to curb fear, how to maintain discipline, negative effects of drugs, etc. so that with this knowledge they can become better citizens of the country. She said many more activities for the betterment of the society has to be started with the help of these children. The Governor was of the opinion that such a concept has to be implemented in other States too and said she would make efforts in that direction.

Shri Mukesh Chandar, DGP in his welcome speech said that the objective of the scheme is to make the young children better citizens of the country.

Shri Sunil Garg Inspector General of Police said, the objective of the “Little Police” scheme is to impart knowledge to children on how  the police functions and also to make them better citizens.

Shri Vishram Borkar SP, and other senior police officers were present on the occasion.

THE GOA STATE VRIKSHAMITRA AWARD-2016

Panaji: July 4, 2016 ….  Applications are invited from individuals and organizations for the Goa State Vrikshamitra Award-2016 towards exemplary work in aforestation/tree plantation.

 The Award will be given in two categories i.e. individuals and organizations and carries a cash prize of Rs. 20,000/- each and citation.

DDG COMMENDATION  FOR INFORMATION OFFICER, SHRI AGUIAR

July 2, 2016 …. Shri John Aguiar, Information Officer, Department of Information & Publicity, Government of Goa , has been selected for the  award of Deputy Director General,  NCC Commendation Card, for his valuable assistance to the NCC activities in Goa.

He will receive the award at a simple function to be held at NCC Office, 1 Goa battalion, NCC at Shanta Building,  on July 5 at 9.30 am at the hands of Group Commander NCC (Belgaum Group) Col. Kripal Singh. The name of  Shri Aguiar was recommended by Col. Nand Kishor Subedar, former Commanding Officer of the 1 Goa Battalion NCC.

Shri Aguiar has been himself an cadet Senior Under Officer in NCC and has been closely associated with the activities of NCC in Goa. He was instrumental in forming an association of Ex-NCC cadets and also instituting an achievers award for Ex-NCC cadets.

He is also Public Relations Officer of Goa Police Department and Honorary Company Commander of Home Guards. He was awarded the Goa Chief Minister’s Gold Medal for meritorious services, Presidents Home Guards Medal for meritorious services in Home Guards organization and DGCD commendation cared and disc.

D’SOUZA INAUGURATES 1DAY SEMINAR ON SWACCH BHARAT

Panaji: July 1, 2016 …. The Deputy Chief Minister, Shri Francis D’Souza today inaugurated one day Workshop on ‘Solid Waste Management’ (SWM) Rules and Sanitation organized by Goa State Urban Development Agency in the city today.

 The objective of the workshop was to review and assess the work done by the stakeholders to accomplish the goal of Swacch Bharat Mission.

 Vice-Chairman, GSUDA, Shri Sudhir Kandolkar; Chairpersons, Councilors, Chief Officers and staff of GSUDA attended the function.

 Shri D’Souza speaking on the occasion said that the objective of the Swacch Bharat Mission can be achieved easily in this small State of Goa with due assistance of Municipalities who have a major responsibility in comparison to other states.

 The Government endeavors to provide logistic to Municipalities in the State to make the Swacch Bharat Mission successful. He regretted the non participation by some of the stakeholders from local self bodies who have an important role to achieve the task.

 Shri D’Souza advised to organize timely meetings to review and assess the work and carve out system to speed up system to tackle the garbage problem. This seminar will help to take stock of progress of the work under Swacch Bharat Mission and hoped that the Seminar will help to deliberate, discuss and decide the future strategy.

 Secretary, Urban Development, Shri Sudhir Mahajan in his address urged the people to be sensitive towards cleanliness and work seriously to speed up cleanliness in ones respective areas. We have to create basic habits, practices pertaining to cleanliness to achieve the objective Swacch Bharat. There is no dearth of resources provided by the Government but the Officers need to guide local people to make the mission Swacch Bharat Mission, he pointed.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE SCHEME TO TRADITIONAL OCCUPATION

Panaji: June 30, 2016 …. The Directorate of Social Welfare is implementing the scheme to Grant Monthly Financial Assistance to the Persons Engaged in Traditional Occupation/Businesses including Motorcycle Pilots”.

Recently the Chief Minister has announced in the Budget, that the Yellow/Black Auto Rickshaw Drivers will be benefited. To create awareness on the above mentioned scheme the Directorate of Social Welfare has organized an awareness Programme on July 3, 2016 at Azad Bhavan, Porvorim Goa, at 3.00 pm where Chief Minister of Goa and  Social Welfare Minister will be briefed about the scheme.

AUCTION FOR COLLECTION OF COCONUT FRUIT

Panaji: June 29, 2016 … The Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary services, Panaji has informed that the auction for collection of usufruct of 120 Coconut fruit bearing trees at Cattle Breeding farm, Copardem, Sattari for the period of three years w.e.f July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2019 has been fixed on July 8, 2016 at 11.00 am at Cattle Breeding Farm, Copardem, Sattari.

Those interested may inspect the Coconut trees on any working day except Sunday and holidays between 9.00 am to 11.00 am and 2.30 pm to 5.00 pm.

PCI’S SUB-COMMITTEE TO EXAMINE ADVERTISEMENT ISSUES

Panaji:  June 28, 2016 …. The Press Council’s Sub-Committee on Advertisements comprising of Shri Gurinder Singh, Convenor and Prabhat Kumar Dash, Member will be visiting Goa to meet with the stakeholders/Authorities of State Government to review/examine the advertisement policy of the State Government of Goa.

            The Sub-Committee will interact with the stakeholders to discuss their grievance on June 30, 2016 between 11.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. in the Conference Hall, Secretariat, Porvorim and with the State Government Authorities on July 1, 2016 between 11.00 a.m. to 1.30 p.m.

            Media persons may attend the meeting to interact with the members of the said Committee and apprise them of their grievances, if any.  

CM RELEASES BOOK ON TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND TECHNOLOGIES

Panaji: June 27, 2016 … Chief Minister Shri Laxmikant Parsekar released an exclusive field study book titled “Traditional Knowledge and Technologies – A Boon of Wisdom” authored by well known folklorist Shri Vinayak Khedekar at Secretariat, Porvorim today.

The book is published by West Zone Culture Centre, Udaipur.

The significant aspects of book are food and eating habits, traditional technology, and ethnic wisdom etc. of cultural field. Overall this is a unique attempt made by the author Shri Khedekar by studying and documenting a very vital aspect of Goan conventional life.

The book illustrates immense use of natural resources and their utility in domestic and for material purpose.

Chief Minister Shri Parsekar louded the work of Shri Khedekar in the work of traditional folklore.
