goa wins the final of the Goa Women’s Football Festival 2016

08/05/2016 … Goa XI came out all guns blazing and won the final of the Goa Women’s Football Festival 2016 with a very convincing 6-0 victory over Tibet Women’s Football team.
Goa XI were led by a fine hat-trick by substitute Somaaya Mukundan. Goa XI started the final match in an attacking pace and kept pounding the opposition goal, which gave no time for the Tibet team to settle in the game.
Vailanka D’Souza opened the scoring for Goa XI with a simple tap in goal off a nice pass received from Cianna Lobo. The early goal broke the momentum of the Tibet team and Goa XI controlled the pace of the match from there on.
A goal mouth fumble led to an unfortunate own goal in the 17th min to push the lead further to 2-0 for Goa XI. In the 20th min of play, Velanie Fernandes gave a nice through ball pass to Vailanka D’Souza who did a nice turnaround dribble that beat the defender and deftly placed the ball in the back of the net to put Goa XI up 3-0. Tibet midfielder Ngawang Otsoe and inspirational captain Jamyang Chotso tried to motivate the team and kept the possession of the ball for a brief moment in the midfield.
Goa XI coach Juliet Miranda brought in Somaaya Mukundan and she got into the action right away by scoring a goal in the 24th min of play using her pace to beat off 2 defenders and the Tibet goalkeeper Tenzin Dekyong. Goa XI lead 4-0 at the half-time.  The 2nd half started with the Tibet team looking eager to pull a goal back but the Goa XI defence line marshalled by Cynthia Lobo and Linda Colaco gave no room for Tibet forwards to make any shots at the Goa XI goal.
Lhakpa Bhutti, Sonam Dolma and Rithar Dolma worked tirelessly for the Tibet team throughout the match. Somaaya Mukundan increased the lead to 5-0 by scoring a fine goal off a pass from left winger Anline Fernandes in the 33rd min of play.
The match in the 2nd half was confined to the midfield and Tibet players made a few attempts at goal and showed their skills. Somaaya got her hat-trick with a nice goal with a good volley that crashed into the nets in the 46th min of play off a pass from Cianna Lobo. The match ended with Goa XI winning the match 6-0.

Vasco SC and Salgaocar FC play out goalless stalemate!

23/09/2015 ….. It was a tale of missed opportunities for Salgaocar FC as they were guilty of spurning chances aplenty, to end up with their second successive goalless draw in the on-going Goa Professional League played at Duler against old foes Vasco SC. With this draw the Greens have accumulated 5 points from 3 matches while Vasco have the same number of points having played an additional game.

The notable absentees from Salgaocar’s starting line-up from their earlier two encounters were Leny Pereira at the heart of dense and Scottish medio Martin Scott as coach Malcolm Thomson opted to field several of the younger players who haven’t had a run out yet in the league. Jay Ganesh was handed his first start of the season and Abhijit Das replaced Bruno Colaco in goal for the Greens. Salgaocar made a lively beginning and could have shot into the lead as early as the 4thminute but striker Myron Borges blasted over from hand-shaking distance from a beautifully whipped in free-kick from the right by Brian Mascarenhas. Just after the 10 minute mark, Kingslee Fernandes who was full of running for Vasco SC and at the heart of the Vasco midfield then probably had the best chance to put Vasco ahead as he side footed a cross from John Fernandes, but Abhijit Das recovered well after being wrong footed to parry the ball away for a corner.

Salgaocar’s captain Rocus Lamare found himself in the thick of things as he tried to find the top corner from just inside the box after the ball landed at his feet off a headed clearance from a Gilbert free-kick but the ball sailed agonisingly over. Myron was the culprit yet again after he failed to meet a delightful cross from Rosario Mendes from the right. The Greens were inching ever closer to breaking the deadlock and almost found the back of the net at the stroke of the half hour mark as Saran’s left footer brought out the best of Shilton Fernandes in the Vasco goal.

Just a couple of minutes from the breather Pawan was unable to get any power from inside the 6-yard box to trouble the Vasco custodian. Just as it seemed that both sides were headed into the break level, the Greens created three golden opportunities but failed to bulge the net. Gilbert’s shot was somehow scrambled away and then Rosario blasted wide after a strong run saw him get into a good shooting position in the box. The Greens still had time to head up the field before the hooter and both Jason and Pawan failed to get on the end of a teasing cross from Brian, when all that was essentially required was a tap in.

In the second period, Salgaocar looked to build patiently and had Vasco on the back foot early on with a flurry or corners but were unable to trouble the scorers. The game however did come to life in the final 15 minutes when both sides looked to go for the elusive winner. First up Shubham Desai found the ball at his feet with the Salgaocar keeper beaten off a cross from Aghin Ashokan but the defense were somehow able to clear their lines. Minutes later a mistake from Pawan at the top of the box saw substitute Agnelo D’Souza through on goal but blasted wide. Agnelo was presented another glorious opportunity in the 85th but failed to hit the target.

The game did get a lot more physical during the second period and a lunging tackle by Salgaocar substitute Charles Miranda along the by-line saw the referee send him off with 2 minutes still left on the clock. Eventually, neither side was able to break the deadlock and walked away with a point apiece.

FC Goa record an emphatic win over Al Shabab ~Reinaldo and Jofre found their names on the scorecard once again as the Goan franchise of the Indian Super League (ISL) beat the former Saudi Arabia Premier League (SPL) champions 2-1~

panjim… September 16, 2015: FC Goa beat Al Shabab 2-1 in their second friendly ahead of the upcoming Indian Super League (ISL) season 2, at the Al Shabab stadium in Dubai, on Tuesday evening.

Zico made four changes from the 11 that started in the 2-2 draw against Al Khaleej.LaxmikantKattimani started in between the sticks in place of Elinton Andrade while Narayan Das, PronayHalder and Darryl Duffy were handed starts in place of Debabrata Roy, JoaquimAbranches and ThongkhosiemHaokip.

The hosts hit on the gas early on, but the Goans managed to ward them off before Leo Moura’s cross for NicolauColaco alerted the AL Shabab defense in the eighth minute.

Goa kept a good shape in the defense marshaled by marquee player Lucio despite having to deal with a couple of long efforts from their opponents until the Gaursstarted getting offensive in attack. Reinaldo failed to control Moura’s pass in the 27th minute.

Two minutes later, it was 1-0 in favour of FC Goa with Jofrefinding the back of the net through a deflected free-kick in the 29th minute.

The ISL side kept up the ante but Narayan Das was deemed to have fouled an Al Shabab player inside the box, and a result of the converted penalty both teams walked into the lemon break with the scoreline reading 1-1.

Crossing over, it was more of a battle for authority at the center of the park despite a couple of efforts made by FC Goa to move ahead.

Three quick changes for Goa saw Nicolau, who picked a slight injury, get replaced by Keenan Almeida. Jonatan Lucca and Romeo Fernandes came in place of Bikramjit Singh and Duffy respectively.

Jofre was blocked a shot at goal in the 66th minute after linking well with Narayan and on the other side Al Shabab let fly a free-kick from about 30 yards wide of the mark.

The 71st minutes sent the FC Goa fans in Dubai in ruptures as Reinaldo restored his side’s lead with a brilliant finish that was a succeeded from a pass by Romeo who dribbled past two opponents after receiving the ball from Moura.

Chants for Romeo filled the stadium as Al Shabab tried desperately to find a late equaliser and almost did so in the 84th minute off a header.

FC Goa had to survive the remaining minutes with 10 men on the pitch following the marching orders given to skipper Lucio for high boots. Jofre gets his share of the applause, being substituted by Luciano Sobrosa in the 88thminute.

The timings of the Goan side’s remaining matches against Ajmal FC, Al Jazeera Club and Hatta Club at the respective clubs’ grounds on 16, 19, and 20 September respectively, have been revised to 1745, 1730 and 1730 respectively (Dubai local time).

Said Zico, Head Coach, FC Goa“It was good because all the players played around 90 minutes with a good level. This was the most important thing in this match. Many things were good during the matches. There are some things that we have to correct.”

Fans may follow the live updates of the friendly matches in Dubai on FC Goa’s official twitter handle (@fcgoaofficial) while those in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) can witness the stars with their own eyes.
