National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, Directorate of Health Service will organise State Level Function at conference hall of Urban Health Centre Margao on May 16, 2023 at 10.15 am on the occasion of National Dengue Day.
To emphasis on strategies to control and reduce the Dengue burden National Dengue Day is observed on 16th May every year. This year the theme is “Harness partnership to defeat dengue”. Also awareness activities are being organized throughout the State.
IFFI 53 to celebrate 50 glorious years of Manipuri Cinema
Manipur- the ‘ Jewel city of India’, one of the eight sisters of North East will be the torch bearer for promotion of films from North East India at the 53rd edition of International Film Festival of India (IFFI).
To mark the golden jubilee of Manipuri cinema, IFFI 53-Asia’s oldest film festival – will showcase Five Feature and five Non-Feature films, curated by Manipur State Film Development Society under Indian Panorama. Each year 9th April has been celebrated as the birth of Manipuri cinema since the first Manipuri feature film was released on 9th April 1972 named ‘Matamgi Manipur’, directed by Deb Kumar Bose.
With the screening of opening feature film Ishanaou directed by Padmashree award winning director Aribam Shyam Sharma, and Ratan Thiyam; The Man of Theater in Non-feature film section along with other films, the cinema enthusiast will get a taste of rich cultural heritage, fierce storytelling, dance, music, traditions and theaters from the state of Manipur.
Manipuri film pioneers like Aribam Shyam Sharma, Oken Amakcham, Nirmala Chanu, Borun Thokchom, Romi Meitei among others will mark their presence to celebrate the 50 years of aesthetic brilliance of Manipuri cinema during the 53rd Edition of IFFI, Goa.
Ishanaou
Directed by Aribam Shyam Sharma, the film Ishanou revolves around a female protagonist named Tampha, her husband and her children. Their lives disrupted by a sudden change when Tampha leaves her family in search of the Maibi Guru whom she thinks has chosen her to be the matriarchal religious sect of Maibis.
Brojendragee Luhongba
Directed by S.N. Chand Sajati, Brojendra, a doctor, married a girl of his mother’s choice but refused to look at her face even after marriage. Later, at a musical performance, he chances upon a beautiful girl and exchanges meaningful glances with her. He returned home guilt-ridden but he surprised to see the same girl as his wife.
Loktak Lairembee
A poetic gala, the film transports the meditative locals of Loktak Lake-the floating Lake of Manipur and accidental discovery of a weapon, a fisherman experiences a new confidence that soon lead into violence. Directed by Haobam Paban Kumar.
Matamgi Manipur
The film narrates the story of a middle-class family, Tonsa, a retired man and his three adult children. All are votaries of the new and old values in society and soon drift in different directions in their lives. The family seems to be destined to disintegrate, but then they begin to understand each other better and decide to live together happily thereafter. Directed by Deb Kumar Bose.
Phijigi Mani
Directed by Oinam Gautam, Yaiphabi – the women protagonist of Phijigi Mani -sets out on a mission to reunite her family. She tries to bridge the strained relationship between her parents and her brother, Sanajaoba who abandoned them. The film rides upon the past and present life of Yaiphabi evolving the socio-political scenario of Manipur.
Ratan Thiyam:The Man of Theater
The film captures life of Ratan Thiyam, Founder-Director of the Chorus Repertory Theater in Manipur. A renowned Manipuri poet, playwriter, painter, musician, theater guru. He worked as Chairperson of the prestigious National School of Drama from 2013-2017. He has also worked as Director of National School of Drama from 1987 to 1989. The movie is directed by Oken Amakcham and Nirmala Chanu.
Ilisha Amagi Mahao
Based on N. Kunjamohan’s National Akademy award winning short story, Chaoba struggles to feed his family by fishing in the river. After many days Chaoba and his son catch a Hilsa, joyous, came home to cook Hilsa curry but unable to do so as Chaoba has to sell his catch to buy some rice. The film is directed by Ningthauja Lancha.
Look at the Sky
Hai, a 40 year villager lives with his family in a remote village in Manipur oucasted by the villagers for not supporting the popular candidate during elections. Despite difficulties, Hai fights for his individual right to vote and elect his representatives. The film is to be directed by Ashok Veilou.
The Silent Poet
Directed by Borun Thokchom, the Film narrates the story of a poetic side of the activist Irom Sharmila Chanu, inside a highly guarded hospital prison in Manipur as she scribes her notebook while serving her sentence for ‘attempt to commit suicide.
The Tainted Minor
‘Chaoren’ the school going boy getting jealous of his friend Sana who is picked up by their football coach to be the team captain. Further, he indulged in a sinister act by giving Sana the chemical-sprayed vegetable to eat and Sana did not turned up the next day. The film is directed by Romi Meitei.
ECO Friendly Aakash Kandil competition held at Old Goa

Kritik Naik from Porvorim bagged the first prize of 10,000 at the All Goa Eco Friendly Aakash Kandil Competition 2022 organized by Herald TV in association with Adlem Goem at a function held at Old Goa recently.
The second prize of 5,000 in the contest went to Shri Varad Jalmi from Priol, Ponda whereas the third prize of 2,500 was bagged by Shri. Yogesh Gaonkar from Betoda, Ponda. Shri Vishal Palyekar from Taleigao and Shri Vinod Naik from Talulem, Bandoda won the fourth and fifth prizes respectively.
About 40 artists from all over Goa Participated in the competition.
Shri Prakash Naik, Information Officer, Department of Information and Publicity who was the Chief Guest while speaking on the occasion complimented Herald TV for its maiden initiative in organising Eco Friendly Aakash Kandil competition. He said such endeavour’s apart from providing excellent opportunity to the people particularly the youth to exhibit their artistic skills and creativity substantially helps to create awareness about conserving the environment and maintaining ecological balance.
Shri Naik also highlighted the importance of the Diwali festival which symbolizes the victory of good over evil and consolidates the bonds of unity among the people of different faiths. He said, Diwali the festival of lights is being celebrated by Hindu communities across the world and organising Aakash Kandil contest involving people to mark such an auspicious occasion is a decisive step in the right direction.
Shri Naik further said, Media is an effective tool to disseminate information and Herald publications are working to highlight various issues concerning the society through Print and Electronic media. In addition to this the Herald publications is also contributing for social cause by organising socio-cultural activities such as Aakash Kandil Competition which is highly commendable he added.
The competition was judged by Shri Prakash Naik, Miss Anisha Phadte and Shri Dattaraj Chari. Shri Naik and other dignitaries gave away prizes to the winners.

Rotary Club of Panaji Riviera Felicitates Teachers From Special Education Field
Rotary Club of Panaji Rivera, had conducted a felicitation program for teachers and support staff from special school across different parts of Goa state on the occasion of teachers day celebration week, on September 08, 2022 at Club Tennis de Gasper Dias, Goa from 10.30 am-4.30pm.
Speaking on the occasion Rotarian Ryan Costa (Vocational Service Director-RC Panaji Riveira: started with the famous quote of William Butler Yeats, “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.”He spoke about how education is the key to success in life, and how teachers make a lasting impact in the lives of their students by bringing out the best in students.he further continued how the job of a special education teacher is all the more daunting and challenging as they are responsible for the educational needs of children with a wide range of disabilities. These children also require a variety of different services, modifications and accommodations in their educational experiences. Knowledge of each type of disability and the specific needs of the children with that disability are crucial to being a successful special educator.

The refurbished ‘Mantralaya’ has a State of the Art Conference Room ‘Samantranaah’ and Cabinet Room ‘ Manthan’ with the latest Audio Visual systems like wireless presentation with touch panel, video wall facilitating video conferencing amongst the allied Government Departments/ Institutions within the state of Goa and the Country.
While addressing the media Chief Minister extended his warm wishes to the people of Goa on Statehood Day. He said “It’s the beginning of a new start and this State of the Art Mantralaya will commence its official work starting from today. It’s the 36th Goa Statehood Day and our Government works for the development and advancement of the state” he added.
Goan Reporter News: IMD launches mobile App ‘Mausam’
India Meteorological Department, Ministry of Earth Science has taken various initiatives in recent years for improvement in dissemination of weather forecast and warning service based on latest tools and technologies, Ministry of Earth Sciences has launched the mobile App ‘Mausam’. This mobile app is available both on Playstore and Appstore.
Users can access observed weather, forecasts, radar images and be proactively warned of impending weather events.
Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune an autonomous Institute, under the Ministry of Earth Sciences has installed a Lightning Location Network. Using this network, by ESSO-IITM has developed a Mobile App, DAMINI-LIGHTNING. This App gives exact location of current lightning and direction of thunderstorm. DAMINI-App would indeed help in getting advance information about impending lightning activity.
Meghdoot, a simple and easy to use mobile application which provides crop advisories to the farmers based on the weather information. It is a joint initiative of India Meteorological Department (IMD), Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) and Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR).
The app provides district-wise advisories on crop and livestock management issued by Agro Met Field Units (AMFU) every Tuesday and Friday based on the past and forecasted weather information. It will help the farmers to take weather-sensitive decisions like sowing of crops, pesticides and fertilizer application, irrigation scheduling and vaccination of animals.
There is also Public Observation App which provides weather information to users location wise. Users can also provide their feedback on this app. App contains dual mode. Quick, Advanced for Weather Feedback, as informed by the Department of Information and Publicity.
