The important announcement that the Archbishop Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrao has made regarding the exposition of the Relics of St. Francis Xavier. The Archbishop in his Decree CP-Decr/182/2022, dated 1st November, 2022, has announced that the Archdiocese of Goa will be having the exposition of the Relics of St. Francis Xavier from 21 November 2024 to 05 January 2025.

Goan News Reporter: First Marine Cage Culture Farm under mariculture policy inaugurated at Candolim

A resident of Candolim, North Goa became the first entrepreneur in the State to start an open sea cage farm under Goa State Mariculture Policy. Based on the request submitted to the Department of Fisheries, Government of Goa, Shri. Sheldon Fernandes was sanctioned licence to undertake open sea cage culture at Candolim. He is also a beneficiary under a centrally sponsored scheme of the Department of Fisheries, Govt. of India and State Fisheries Department.

The cage frames made of galvanised iron (GI) have a diameter of 6m and fishes are cultured inside a net with depth of 5 m tied to the cage frame. Hatchery produced seeds of Asian Seabass (Chonak) and Silver Pompano are being cultured in 5 cages.2 cages under All India Network Project on Mariculture of ICAR- Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), Karwar have been integrated in the said project. The technical advisory for the cage culture is also provided by ICAR-CMFRI, Karwar.

The open sea cage culture farm was inaugurated on October 28, 2022 by Dr. Shamila Monterio, Director, Department of Fisheries, Government of Goa. Dr Suresh Babu P P, Dr Anuraj A, Scientist from CMFRI, Karwar and Mr Chandresh Haldankar, Superintendent of Fisheries, Department of Fisheries were also present during the function. Seeing the huge potential in mariculture activity, Government of Goa became the first State in India to notify mariculture policy to augment fish production through fish culture in cages (closed enclosures) from the sea.

ECO Friendly Aakash Kandil competition held at Old Goa

Kritik Naik from Porvorim bagged the first prize of 10,000 at the All Goa Eco Friendly Aakash Kandil Competition 2022 organized by Herald TV in association with Adlem Goem at a function held at Old Goa recently.

The second prize of 5,000 in the contest went to Shri Varad Jalmi from Priol, Ponda whereas the third prize of  2,500 was bagged by Shri. Yogesh Gaonkar from Betoda, Ponda. Shri Vishal Palyekar from Taleigao and Shri Vinod Naik from Talulem, Bandoda won the fourth and fifth prizes respectively.

About 40 artists from all over Goa Participated in the competition.

Shri Prakash Naik, Information Officer, Department of Information and Publicity who was the Chief Guest while speaking on the occasion complimented Herald TV for its maiden initiative in organising Eco Friendly Aakash Kandil competition. He said such endeavour’s apart from providing excellent opportunity to the people particularly the youth to exhibit their artistic skills and creativity substantially helps to create awareness about conserving the environment and maintaining ecological balance.

Shri Naik also highlighted the importance of the Diwali festival which symbolizes the victory of good over evil and consolidates the bonds of unity among the people of different faiths. He said, Diwali the festival of lights is being celebrated by Hindu communities across the world and organising Aakash Kandil contest involving people to mark such an auspicious occasion is a decisive step in the right direction.

Shri Naik further said, Media is an effective tool to disseminate information and Herald publications are working to highlight various issues concerning the society through Print and Electronic media. In addition to this the Herald publications is also contributing for social cause by organising socio-cultural activities such as Aakash Kandil Competition which is highly commendable he added.

The competition was judged by Shri Prakash Naik, Miss Anisha Phadte and Shri Dattaraj Chari. Shri Naik and other dignitaries gave away prizes to the winners.

GOVERNOR VISITS FATORPA, CACORA, CURCHOREM AND SANVORDEM

Governor, Shri P S Sreedharan Pillai visited Saptkoteshwar and Shree Shantadurga Fatarpekarin temples at Fatorpa Quepem; Babulshaha Pir Aulia Dargah and Mahadev Temple, Kakoda; Guardian Angel Church, Curchorem and also interacted with newly elected Sarpanchas and Panch Members of Quepem Constituency at Fatorpa and Sanvordem Constituency at Sanvordem as a part of Sampurna Goa Yatra today.
Governor, Shri Pillai said Raj Bhavan will constitute expert committee to study and find out the reason and provide the solution concerning maximum dialysis patients which is noticed in Cancona and Fatorpa area. He said he will try his best to solve this problems with the help of locals and Union Government.
Raj Bhavan is a lok bhavan and all are welcomed there he said. India is improving and marching forward day by day. One day Bharat will definetly become Vishwa Guru for the peace and prosperity of the people across the world he remarked and added that India has become 4th financial and economic country in the world.
He further said, he is happy to be in the midst of people who are good at heart. Constitution says people are supreme and they are boss of the country – so any constitutional head, people’s representative, administrative official or any person who is related with Government and system is a servant of the people and they are bound to serve the people. He said, he is trying his best to interact and study the problems of the people with Sampurna Goa Yatra. Raj Bhavan will look into demands and will redress the issues in its own way, and if required, these demands will also be sent to central government for consideration. Raj Bhavan, within a year has provided financial assistance through its discretionary fund to 550 dialysis patients and 100 NGOs serving the people. Raj Bhavan is serving the people irrespective of caste, creed, politics and any other differences.  Goan villages are more beautiful then any other place in the country, he pointed.
At interaction programme held at Sharda English High School, Sanvordem Governor said, Shri Ganesh Gaonkar is a eligible and capable MLA. Supreme Court judgement on mining is a law of land. Government is in process to start mining legally. Raj Bhavan will also persue on the subject, he said.
Further, he said Goa is the richest State in the India per Capita wise. Panchas are the ground level representatives of the people who should try to understand aspirations, demands and pulse of the people and by struggling to solve the issues they should be successful representatives of the people, he added.
The aim of the Sampurna Goa Yatra is betterment and redressal of the issues of the public. Lets work together to make self reliant Goa, the Governor urged.
Shri Ganesh Gaonkar said, Governors Sampurna Goa Yatra is a great success. Its a rare occasion that Sarpnachas and panchas got a chance to interact with highest position person of the State. He urged people to take maximum benefit of the help provided by Raj Bhavan.
MLA Shri Altone Dcosta urged the Governor to use his good offices to provide primary facilities like road, drinking water and electricity to the people of the constituency.
Shri Chandrakant Kavlekar applauded the social work of the Governor.
