Tensions flared at the Mormugao Municipal Council as Chairperson Girish Borker and councillors criticized Chief Officer Siddhivinayak Naik for reinstating suspended staff Milton D’Souza without informing the council. D’Souza, suspended two years ago in a forgery case, was reportedly directed to report to the DMA in Panjim. The Chairperson alleged that Naik bypassed protocol and is ignoring councillors, while also harassing the public by enforcing an appointment system that requires house tax receipts. Responding to the allegations, Naik said the staff cited medical issues and threatened human rights action. He maintained the system is to streamline services and recover dues.
