Goan Reporter News: South Goa District Magistrate Imposes Ban on Assemblies and Processions to Ensure Law and Order Ahead of Elections

District Magistrate (DM), South Goa has ordered from 6 pm of May 5, 2024 till 10 pm of May 7, 2024 in all Assembly Constituencies in South Goa district a ban on unlawful assembly and any procession or rally shall be prohibited to prevent any nuisance and law and order problem.

The DM further orders that no loudspeakers shall be permitted to be used for the purpose of elections.

The DM further orders that no vehicles will be permitted for use of contesting candidates by the Returning Officer for campaigning shall ply on roads to prevent the distribution of money, gifts or liquor and to prevent any nuisance and law and order problem. This does not include the vehicles especially authorised by the Returning Officer on the day of poll.

The DM further orders that all private vehicles shall be checked in a dignified manner to avoid their misuse for distribution of money, gifts or liquor or for causing any nuisance or any harassment to private persons.

No liquor shops, hotels, restaurants, clubs and other establishments selling or serving liquor should be permitted to sell or serve liquor to anyone whoever, on the aforesaid days and on timings mentioned therein.

No proprietary clubs, star hotels, etc and hotels run by anyone even if they are issued different categories of licenses for possession and supply of liquor shall not be permitted to sell or serve liquor on these days and timings mentioned therein.,

This order shall not apply to officers on Election Duty authorised by the Election Commission or the State Government, including polling officials, Magistrates, police officials and Government staff.

Failure to comply with this order shall be liable for penal action under section 188 of Indian Penal Code and other relevant provisions of laws in force.
