Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has extended his warm greetings to the people of the State, particularly to all the Freedom Fighters, on the remarkable occasion of Goa Revolution Day, observed as ‘Kranti Din’. The day is unforgettable and has a historic importance in Goa’s freedom struggle.
In his message to the people of Goa, Dr. Sawant said, “Goa Revolution Day has special prominence for Goans as it was on 18th June 1946, Goans staged an open revolt at Margao against the oppressive Portuguese regime. On this day a great nationalist Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia along with Dr. Julião Menezes, expressed the courage to fight against Portuguese rule with fearless speech. The speech electrified the masses to aggressively fight for their freedom.”
CM Sawant further said, “The spark lit at Margao marked the final stage of the freedom movement that culminated in the Liberation of Goa on 19 December, 1961. Thousands of Goans voluntarily participated in this freedom struggle which witnessed an untold hardship by the freedom fighters. Many embraced martyrdom,” CM added.
On this historic day, let us salute and pay tribute to the bravery of our freedom fighters who suffered and sacrificed their lives for liberating Goa. Let us also remember with gratitude all the freedom fighters who are living today. Also, let us pledge to dedicate ourselves to protect this hard earned freedom and achieve greater heights through progress while maintaining peace in the State,” CM concluded.
