State Level function to observe ‘National Dengue Day’ was held at the Conference Hall, Goa Shipyard Limited, Vasco today. The function was organized by National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, Directorate of Health Services in collaboration with Ayushman Arogya Mandir Urban Primary Health Centre, Vasco and Goa Shipyard Limited.
Present on the occasion were Shri Brijesh Kumar Upadhyay, Chairman and Managing Director, Goa Shipyard Limited, Ms. Edna Moles Dias Irani, Headmistress Government High School, Sada, Smt. Kalpana Mahatme, Deputy Director, National Vector Borne Disease Control, Health Services, Smt. Punam Vernekar, Medical Officer Dr. Rajendra Kanekar, Link Officer and others.
Shri Brijesh Kumar Upadhyay, Chairman and Managing Director, Goa Shipyard Limited, appealed to the public to check their surroundings regularly; clean their home, work and public places responsibly to protect from mosquito breeding.
Shri Upadhyay further said that, when awareness transforms into a habit, participation evolves into a people’s movement, and prevention becomes stronger and more effective, society moves closer towards a healthier and safer future for all. He complimented the Staff and Doctors of Directorate of Health Services.
Highlighting the work of Health Services Department Dr. Kalpana Mahatme informed that the Department has carried out several measures to control dengue in Goa, these includes regular source reduction drives, house-to-house visits to check mosquito breeding sites, fever surveillance surveys, and widespread distribution of pamphlets and leaflets in communities and schools to create awareness about dengue prevention and control.
Prizes were distributed at the hands of Chief Guest to the winners of poster competition and Reel competition organized by the organizers.
National Dengue Day is observed on May 16, every year to emphasis on strategies to control and reduce the Dengue burden. This year the theme is “Community Participation for Dengue Control: Check, Clean and Cover”. In order to commemorate the day, awareness activities were carried throughout the state.
