New Captain of Ports Terminal Opens in Goa which added a new landmark to maritime infrastructure with the inauguration of the Captain of Ports Terminal Building by Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, at Dayanand Bandodkar Road, Panaji. Built at a cost of approximately ₹48.87 crore, the iconic ship-inspired facility reflects the Government’s commitment to modernising maritime administration, strengthening inland waterways, enhancing navigational safety, and creating world-class public infrastructure.

 

Union Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal congratulated the Government of Goa on completing the landmark project. He said Goa has emerged as a leading State in maritime reforms and became the first in the country to implement the Inland Vessels Act. Highlighting India’s rapid transformation under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, he mentioned that the nation’s growing strength in the maritime sector and ship recycling reflects its commitment to building a modern and globally competitive maritime ecosystem.

 

Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant described the project of new terminal as a symbol of Goa’s maritime heritage and future-ready infrastructure. He said the State’s rivers, which have shaped its history, will drive the next phase of Goa’s development by strengthening maritime governance, river traffic management, navigational monitoring and public services, while also promoting tourism, culture and community engagement. He further expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways for their continued support in advancing the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and Viksit Goa 2037.

 

Designed as a modern maritime hub, the G+3 terminal building spans over 4,405 square metres and houses State-of-the-Art administrative offices, marine and hydrographic divisions, advanced communication and security systems, conference facilities, passenger amenities, and dedicated public spaces. The project also features a 450-seat amphitheatre, an indoor restaurant, and recreational areas, creating a vibrant waterfront destination that seamlessly integrates governance, tourism, and community engagement.

The inauguration of the Captain of Ports Terminal Building marks a significant step towards strengthening Goa’s maritime ecosystem through modern infrastructure and improved public services. Beyond serving as the administrative headquarters of the Captain of Ports Department, the facility is expected to enhance operational efficiency, promote inland waterway development, improve navigational safety, and emerge as a vibrant waterfront destination for citizens and visitors alike.

 

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Shri Shripad Naik, Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy; Shri Digambar Kamat, Minister for Captain of Ports, Public Works and Legal Metrology; Shri Sadanand Shet Tanavade, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha); Shri Atanasio Monserrate, Minister for Labour, Revenue and Waste Management; Shri Subhash Phal Dessai, Minister for Social Welfare, Drinking Water, Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities and River Navigation; Shri Rohit Monserrate, Mayor, Corporation of the City of Panaji; Shri Nikhil U. Dessai, IAS, Secretary, Captain of Ports Department; Shri Octavio A. Rodrigues, Captain of Ports; Senior Government officials, dignitaries, and others.
