Panaji ; July 29, 2014 … Governor of Goa, Smt Margaret Alva has extended her greetings and best wishes to the people of Goa and the Muslim community in particular on the auspicious occasion of Id-ul-Fitr.

The Governor in her message has said, Prophet Mohammed gifted us with his invaluable and eternal message of love, compassion and tolerance, which has great relevance today, when humanity is afflicted with problems of religious fundamentalism, hatred, violence and conflicts. In a multi-religious, multi-cultural and multi-lingual country like ours, it is essential for all of us to promote and maintain inter – religious understanding and co-existence among the different sections of society.

Let us, therefore, on this auspicious occasion of Id-ul-fitr, draw inspiration from the eternal message of the Prophet, and practice it in the best interest of social harmony, national unity and integrity.

Goa is traditionally a peaceful State, where people of different faiths live in harmony and mutual understanding. I appeal to the people of Goa to steadfastly maintain this rich legacy, the Governor added.
