05/09/2014 …. GoaUniversity has proudly announced the second visit of Smt. Shubha Mudgal, (Padmashree Awardee  and  well known Indian singer of Hindustani classical music, khayal, thumri, dadra and popular Indian pop music) to the state of Goa, in her capacity as Visiting Research Professor, Nana Shirgaokar Chair in Indian Classical Music at GoaUniversity.  

During this visit Shubha ji would be conducting a Course entitled, ”Improvisation in KhayalThumri & Allied Forms of Music”. Blessed with a remarkable ability to reach out to a mixed bag of participants, Shubha ji would be taking them with her on a fascinating journey of discovery of the variety and rich foundations that go into the making of India’s contemporary music tradition.

This highly innovative Course is offered by the University with no Registration or Course fees and is open to all music lovers.  It would be covered through lectures supported by audio and video references and interactive sessions culminating in a presentation by the participants. 

Significantly, the Course is designed such that no prior knowledge of classical music is envisaged. SHRI D’SOUZA CONDOLES DEATH OF EX-GOA GOVERNOR

September 5, 2014 …. The Deputy Chief  Minister and acting Chief Minster Shri Francis de Souza has expressed deep grief on the death of former Governor  of  Goa Shri Mohammed Fazal. In November1999, he was appointed the Governor  of Goa, a post he held until he was appointed as Governor of Maharashtra in October 2002.

           In a condolence message, the Deputy Chief Minister recalled his contribution to the public life and prayed that almighty rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage and strength to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss with fortitude.

CM GREETS TEACHERS ON TEACHERS DAY

Panaji, September 5, 2014 …. Chief Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar has greeted the teachers on the occasion of the 53rd  Teacher’s Day. In his message, he says I have great pleasure, in extending my warm and very sincere greetings to the teaching community of Goa.

          September 5th  is the birthday of late Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, our former  President, who was a highly learned and distinguished  teacher, besides being a renowned educationist  and philosopher.

          Since, time immemorial,  the teacher has been revered as a role  model who  shapes the lives of young and budding students, and gives them the light of  knowledge and ignites their minds. A good teacher, can only, give and give. On  this day all our teacher’s should strive to achieve  the best out of their students and  Society.

          While celebrating Teacher’s  Day, we respectfully  pay homage  to him and recall the monumental role played  by teachers as builders of the Nation.

          On this occasion, I appeal to the teaching community of Goa, to draw inspiration from Dr. S. Radhkrishnan and discharge  their duties with renewed  sense of dedication and commitment. “FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE CONTROL PROGRAMME (FMD-CP)-SIXTH ROUND”

Panaji, September 4, 2014The  Department  of Animal Husbandry  and Veterinary Services is  implementing the Government of India Scheme “Foot and Mouth Disease Control Programme (FMD-CP) Sixth Round” under Livestock Health and  Disease Control which will be conducted in phases at six monthly intervals.

          In this connection, the programme  will commence from  October  7, 2014 wherein all efforts  are being  made to vaccinate  all the cattle and buffalo  population and sera samples  will be collected from selected villages, pre and post vaccination to ascertain the immune status of the herd.

          The dairy farmers are requested to extend their full hearted cooperation to the teams/staff of the Department in this endeavor of immunization of the entire cattle and buffalo population in the State with a view to  eradicate Foot and  Mouth Disease which is highly contagious, causing high economic losses in milk production, draft power, growth and reproduction.

CII- GSIA facilitate to showcase Goan MSMEs at the India Manufacturing Show 2014 at Bangalore

03/09/2014 ….laghu Udyog Bharati, India’s apex body for MSME’s is organising the 3rd Edition of the India Manufacturing Show 2014 during September 11-13, 2014 at Bangalore International Center.

To boost and encourage the MSMEs in Goa in the manufacturing sector, Shri Manohar Parrikar, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Government of Goa has allotted bare space of 200 sq. mts for Goa Pavillion for Goan Industries to participate at the IMS 2014. The participating industries from goa will be provided space in Goa Pavillion free of charge. And the cost of the transportation of their products for display will also be borne by the State Government.

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Goa Chapter and the Goa State Industries Association (GSIA) have been actively encouraging participation of the Goan industry to take benefit of the India Manufacturing Show (IMS) 2014 which could be an ideal Platform for interaction, networking, exchange of ideas, product display, distribution of Industry information, focused business presentation, live demonstrations, new development and innovation, in showcasing new technologies for all stakeholders like Manufacturers, suppliers Ancillaries, end users, Government and the industry under one roof. 03/09/2014 …. Eight members of the executive committee of the goa cricket association on Wednesday passed a resolution asking gca president vinod phadke to step aside from his post of gca president as mr phadke name was figured in the pendse commission report …

it may be noted that the state government-run Sports Authority of Goa had recently issued a show-cause notice to the Goa Cricket Association asking why it should not be de-recognized for failing to implement Justice Pendse Commission recommendations.

The commission, which has probed the infamous ticket scam reported during the 2001 India-Australia match at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa, had recommended that all the then members of the managing committee should be barred from managing the affairs of GCA who were named in the pendse report.

On Wednesday though certain decision were taken in the interest of the game of cricket, the meeting also had discussion where in the group led by dr salkar with eight members support out of fifteen passed a resolution asking mr phadke to step aside from his post

Dr salkar said that if mr phadke did not step down after the committee decision then whatever decision taken by mr phadke from now on in gca would be illegal as per constitution

Meanwhile gca president vinod phadke charged dr salkar of trying to take over gca presidentship from him by unwanted means

Phadke also stated that he had already asked for a 15 day time to sag to reply to the show casue notice sent by sag of de-recognizing goa cricket association

Cleanliness drive of beaches in Goa begins from september 1st

Panjim, September 2/2014 – With the increase in the number of tourists visiting Goa each year, there is a concern about the cleanliness of the beautiful seashores across the State. Goa Tourism has taken the matter seriously as it recognizes and understands that every tourist is important and distinct which also means cleanliness is a priority for the State and the sector.

Ms. Pamela Mascarenhas, Deputy Director, Department ofTourism said, “We have contracted two agencies to cater to the cleanliness of our North and South Goa beaches.

The contract begins from 1st September where the initial work of placement of dustbins, building of compost pits, recruitment of manpower, purchasing vehicles, etc. is underway. This cleanliness drive is slated to be in full swing in 30 days with manpower, placement of bins, vehicles, etc. in place.

The waste from the bins placed on the beaches will be collected on daily basis in addition to combing of wet and dry sand.Special arrangements will also be made to meet the intense demand of beaches after special events such as Ganpatiimmersion, Durga celebrations, beach weddings, film shootings or any other tourism related events to ensure complete cleanliness of the beach within 24 hours after the day of the event. The project will also ensure cleanliness of beaches from floating and other waste onto the beaches from tidal springs especially during the monsoons and high tides amongst others.

This will be an integrated system comprising cleaning of beaches through manual means wherever necessary, giving utmost priority to environment protection and pollution control of sand and water.

GURUMURTHY CALLED FOR IMMEDIATE FINANCIAL INCLUSION OF NON CORPORATE SECTOR

01/09/2014 …. “The Non Corporate Small Business Sector which has outperformed Corporate Sector in terms of contribution in National GDP,  employment, exports and domestic manufacturing, needs a viable financial architecture for its structured development and to give a boost to national economy”-said well known economist and financial adviser Mr. S. Gurumurthy today at a National Round Table Conference on ” need of a financial architecture for non corporate small business” held at New Delhi today by Action Committee For Formal Finance For Non Corporate Small Business, a group constituted by various national organisations of non corporate sector including Traders, Transporters, Truck Operators, SMEs, self entrepreneurs, women entrepreneurs, hawkers, labourers and other sectors.

 Mr. Gurumurthy while inaugurating the Round Table Conference said that the non corporate sector is economic backbone of the Country which produces a value addition of Rs.6.28 lakh crores per year but this sector is the most financially under-served limiting the economic progress of the nation. The banking institutions could able to provide only 4% financial needs of this sector.

There are about 5.77 crore unincorporated non-agricultural enterprises in informal sector providing employment to about 46 crore people in the Country out of which about 24 crore people are self employed.  He also said that about 61% enterprises in non corporate sector are owned by backward classes. He further said that the best way to make India’s economy fully formal is to extend the reach of the financial system.

Mr. Gurumurthy further said that 90% of the informal sector does not access outside source of finance.The Banks do not finance the non formal sector which are largely unregistered due to High HR cost to lend and also due to basel norms which makes it difficult to finance even registered MSME sector, leave aside the unregistered small business. Mr. Gurumurthy called for creation of Small Business Finance Companies or Institutions as a financial architecture for non corporate small business in the Country. He further said that the non corporate sector holds huge promise for entrepreneurship, self employment and livelihood and therefore there is an urgent need of financial empowerment of this sector in larger interest of the nation.

Mr. Praveen Khandelwal, National Coordinator of the Action Committee informed that similar Round Table Conferences shall be held at Mumbai, Kolkata, Ahmadabad, Chennai, Hyderabad,Bangalore, Cochin, Nagpur, Bhopal and Kanpur within next two months. The Action Committee shall also hold  30 ” Jan Adalat”, a form of public hearing, in different states of the Country in next two months where people belonging to different groups of non corporate sector will narrate their problems and difficulties in obtaining requisite finance from banks and baking institutions. Such hearings will bring the ground realities of financial sector into limelight.

The Action Committee intends to prepare a White Paper based on the inputs received from Round Table Conferences and Jan Adalat which will be submitted to Prime Minister, Finance Minister, Commerce Minister, MSME Minister, Chief Ministers and Finance Ministers of different states and RBI Governor . Copies of the White Paper shall also be submitted to senior leaders of different political parties and MPs of both houses of Parliament.
