FARMAGUDI FORT TO BE DEVELOPED WITHIN ONE YEAR-CM

Panaji: February 21,2020 … Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant  today  highlighted the need to follow the thoughts and ideals of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to create a State on the lines  of kingdom ruled by Shivaji Maharaj.

Speaking as the Chief Guest after paying  tributes to Ch. Shivaji Maharaj on the occasion of his birth anniversary celebration by the State at a function organized by the Department of Information & Publicity in association with Bandora Village Panchayat  and Kavale ZP Member at Farmagudi Ponda.

The Chief Minister informed that the Government has plans to undertake expansion including development and beautification of the existing fort at Farmagudi, foundation for which will be laid shortly to ensure that the work is accomplished within one year. He said once the work of expansion is completed, the fort will be equipped with portraits of Shivaji Maharaj, besides artefacts, ammunitions and other items used by the great Maratha warrior during his regime.

The function was attended by Minister for Art & Culture Shri Govind Gaude,Ex-Chief Minister & MLA Shri Ravi Naik; Chairperson, PMC, Shri Venkatesh Naik; Secretary for Information, Shri Sanjay Kumar IAS, and others attended the function.

The Chief Minister also emphasized the need to imbibe in the minds of the people and particularly the students community the principles and morals preached by the legendary Maratha king in the history.

Minister for Art & Culture Shri Govind Gaude in his address stressed the need for skills of  proper planning adopted by Shivaji Maharaj the Maratha King. He said Shivaji with his shrewd qualities coupled with firm determination and valour succeeded in conquering many forts. He was a mass leader and has always served people irrespective of caste, creed, sex and religion and advised to adhere to sincerity in all respect.

Dr. Padmakar Gorhe, the Keynote Speaker from Pune, delivered his keynote address in which he spoke on the life and work of Shivaji Maharaj. He said Shivaji was popular among the people belonging to different faiths. He was a man with secular outlook who worked tirelessly to give justice to the people.

Prior to the main function held in the precincts of Shree Ganapati Devasthan, the Chief Minister and Minister for Art & Culture Shri Govind Gaude and other dignitaries garlanded the statue of Shivaji Maharaj at fort premises and offered floral tributes. The Chief Minister and other dignitaries also garlanded the statue of first Chief Minister of Goa Late Bhausaheb Bandodkar. The children of Bal Bhavan presented bravery song on Shivaji Maharaj ( powada ) welcome song. Women attached to Stree Garjana comprising of 40 women presented dhol, tasha, pathak. While the students of Dada Vaidya High School presented lejhim dance.etc.

As a part of  the celebration inter collegiate quiz and  theatrical entry (Natya Pravesh) competitions were organized.

Panaji : February 20, 2020 :::: All the consumers of Electricity Department, Circle-I(South), Margao are informed that the Electricity Department has declared February 2020 as an arrears clearance month and taken on an arrears recovery drive.

          Hence, the Electricity Consumers pertaining to South Goa including Salcete, Mormugao, Canacona, Quepem, Sanguem, Dharbandora Taluka have been asked pay their outstanding dues/arrears on or before February 29, 2020 to avoid disconnections and inconvenience.

DRAMA ON THE LIFE OF CHHATRAPATI SHIVAJI MAHARAJ GETS HUGE RESPONSE AT CURCHOREM

Margao:  February 19, 2020 … Around 450 years ago Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj exited but still his name and glory, gave us advise of  patriotism  Minister for  Art and Culture, Shri Govind Gaude. Shivaji Maharaj laid the foundation for democracy he said.

Shri Gaude was speaking at the presentation of  Marathi Historical Drama on the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, titled “Garud Zep” presented by Vimlanand Kala Manch, Madkai at Ravindra Bhavan, Curchorem, yesterday.

The Drama was organised by Department of Information and Publicity to mark the celebration of State Level Shivjayanti.

Speaking further, Shri Gaude said, today’s youth will not face any obstacles in their life if they study the narratives of Shivaji and act accordingly. The thoughts of Shivaji Maharaj have the capacity and power to face any difficulties and obstacles, he said. Shivaji is not limited to our country but also people across the world salute him he said.he called upon the youths to walk on the path shown by Shivaji Maharaj he opined.

Shri Gaude paid tributes by garlanding temporary bust statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj placed in the auditorium.

The attractive temporary statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on throne which was erected in the premises of Ravindra Bhavan, Curchorem was garlanded by MLA, Sanguem, Shri Prasad Gaonkar; Member Secretary, Ravindra Bhavan, Curchorem, Shri Ajay Gaude; Commisioner, SC and ST Commission, Shri Prakash Velip; Information Assistant, Department of Information and Publicity, Shri Siddhesh Samant; Convenor, Shri Vishwas Sawant Dessai, Shri Sarvanand Sawant Dessai and Shri Vardhan Kamat, Director of Drama.

Ravindra Bhavan, Curchorem thanked the Department of Information and Publicity for giving the people a chance to watch the drama on the life of a historian. Drama received huge response from viewers.

THERE IS A LOT THAT WE CAN LEARN FROM EACH OTHER: CM

Panaji ::; 16/02/2020 :::: The Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said that it is important for Portugal and Goa to maintain ties with each other so that each can explore the opportunities to grow. The Chief Minister was speaking at the inaugural of the Conference on Urban Design, organised by Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited at Adil Shah Palace, Old Secretariat, Panaji, on Saturday. Present on the occasion was President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

Dr Sawant while speaking on the occasion said that Portugal and Goa have so many similarities. He said that there is a lot of Goan diaspora in Portugal. Dr Sawant also said that Goa and Portugal can have city to city contact which can be a learning experience.

Dr Sawant said that there is a lot where we can learn from each other. He said that Portugal has heritage cities which though modernised have still retained their character. They have understood urban design and they think of design and sustainable development at the same time he said.

The Chief Minister also spoke on the Smart City vision of Goa for Panaji.

President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said that in this globalised world it is not hard to conclude that cities are geographically different but still fight for similar objectives like efficient and sustainable urban infrastructure and thereby improving the lives of their inhabitants. This is the common goal of many cities around the world he said.

He went on to add that Goa is a unique place where there is dialogue between West and East, between Portugal and India. He said that the past has to remain in the past; however, the past can become a future if one takes advantage of that past, the President said while talking of urban realities.

He added that there is no first class or second class cultures or civilisations, all are first class cultures and civilisations and it is the dialogue between these cultures and civilisations that gives basis on which one can join forces to do good.

He said that he has been visiting most of the world but his visit to Goa is special.

The conference included a presentation on ‘Re-signifying Territories By Design-The Case of Porto’ by the Portuguese designer Professor Eduardo Aires.

 GFDC HELD KIT DISTRIBUTION AT CORTALIM GFDC CENTRE

PANAJI: 15/02/2020 :::: Goa Football Development Council (GFDC) Cortalim centre distributed football kit to 125 trainees at the Cortalim Church hall recently.

Speaking at the occasion the Cortalim MLA and Chief Guest, Alina Saldanha praised GFDC for the facilities being provided to the children and urged the trainees to use the resources provided to them efficiently.

While the Guest of honour and GFDC Member Secretary, Aleixo Da Costa requested the parents to send their children for coaching on a regular basis. He also urged the students to remain dedicated to the game and practice to achieve greater heights as the government is providing them with free kit and nutrition.

“GFDC is providing  kids at a young age with football coaching so  they can become good players in the future. At the same time playing a sport will keep them healthy and fit. Please attend regular coaching and at the same time give due importance to your studies. I request the parents and children not to keep the kit in the cupboard as it will not fit them in a while. Parents forcing their children to go for tuition is the most common excuse I get for low attendance at the centre. This centre has been performing well as two students have represented Goa in the U-14 team,” said Costa.

Also present for the function was the Parish Priest of Cortalim, Fr Pio Almeida and the Headmaster of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School, Gilroy Desouza .

CHIEF MINISTER INAUGURATES AQUA GOA MEGA FISH FESTIVAL 2020 AT CAMPAL

Panjim : February 14, 2020 … Government is striving towards providing good facilities to fisherman community in the State. In this regard  a well equipped Fish Market Complex comprising of adequate cold storage and other modern amenities will be constructed at Fatorda, Margao  stated Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant. He was speaking at  inaugural function of  Aqua Goa Mega Fish Festival 2020  organised by  Directorate of Fisheries held at SAG Campal ground Panaji yesterday.

Chief Minister further informed that foundation stone for the project of Fish Market at Fatorda  will be laid shortly. The Government is fully committed towards welfare of people those are in the business of fishing. He urged youths of State to get involved into this business as fisheries business has lots of potential to grow in larger scale.

Chief Minister Dr. Sawant  stressed on need to explore new avenues of fishing other than fishing in the Sea. Back waters fishing and other types of fishing activities will help to make available fresh and good qualities of fish throughout a year, he added.

Dr. Sawant also expressed that young generation need to move towards special studies in fisheries so as to make better research in fish economy.

Minister for fisheries Shri. Filipe Nery Rodrigues spoke about the growing potential in the sector of  fisheries business. Main objective of organising Aqua Goa Fish Festival to spread awareness regarding fisheries business and various aspects of its economy he added.

Bollywood  Actress Smt. Mugdha Godse said that Fishing business is evolving as a new career and it is very much welcoming that lots of  youths are getting involved in the business.

Aqua Goa Fish Festival being  held till February 15, 2019  has unique aquarium,  fish pond and also variety of food stalls around . various activities such as seminars, competitions and entertainment programmes will be held during the   festival.

On the occasion Directorate of Fisheries felicitated Fisherman, Raponkars and Fisherwomen for their valuable contribution towards fisheries business. Shri. Ajit Chodankar, Shri. Harshad Dhond, Shri. Minguel Rodrigues, Smt. Librata, Smt. Ana Maria Colaco, Shri. Agnelo Rodrigues, Shri. Joao Lobo, Shri. Caitan Fernandes were felicitated on the occasion.

GOVERNOR VISITS VILLAGES OF NORTH  GOA DISTRICT

Panaji: February 13, 2020 …. The Governor of Goa Shri Satya Pal Malik visited villages of North Goa District today. During the time he visited the heritage homes of Shri Caetano N.De Souza at Gongrem and Shri Armando Braganza at Mazalwado at Assagao in Bardez Taluka. where he  discussed about the construction and maintenance of such heritage homes for which he favoured the felicitation of the owners of these  houses during the celebration of National Days at Raj Bhavan.

Thereafter the Governor visited the agricultural fields in Corlim village in  Tiswadi Talika and had  meeting with the farmers and elected representatives in the Panchayat hall  where he discussed issues related to agriculture.

During the interaction the Governor suggested to the farmers to bring fallow land under cultivation. He also suggested to the Agriculture Department to organize field visit of farmers to salinity affected lands in Brazil which have been converted into cultivable land. He assured to discuss with the Chief Minister and other Ministers regarding the issues of maintenance of Bunds and sluice gates. He explained that the Goan brown rice is in great demand in other parts of the country. Which needs to be tapped by the farmers of Goa said  the Governor..

GOA UNION OF JOURNALISTS MAKE THE CUT AT  ICONIC KALA GHODA  ARTS FESTIVAL

Panaji::: 12/02/2020::: Three Goan photojournalists representing the Goa Union of Journalists have made it to the final list of 20 selected  photojournalists from the country to display their work at the internationally acclaimed ‘Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, Mumbai 2020’.
GUJ President and special photographer (The Times of India-Goa) Rajtilak Naik, principal photographer (Gomantak Times) Atish Naik and photographer (The Navhind Times) Hemant Parab have displayed their work on social issues along with other noted photojournalists from across the country at the prestigious Jehangir Art Gallery in Mumbai.
The selection criteria for the group photography exhibition ’20 PHOTOGRAPHERS 20 STORIES’, at the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival demanded a long term research study project on any social issue affecting the society at large. Rajtilak Naik ‘s work ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ focussed on the dark side of tourism in Goa. Atish Naik’s work ‘Unprivileged’ highlighted the unlucky pockets of Goan villages which are yet to receive basic facilities,  Hemant Parab’s work ‘Graphite Life’, talked about the graphite dust pollution in Amona village.
The other photojournalists whose works have been displayed includes India’s first woman photojournalist late Homai Variyawala, pioneer of aerial photography late Gopal Bodhe, noted photojournalist, former PTI photographer Shirish Shete, chief photographer-Indian Express Niraj Priyadarshani, veteran photojournalist Vasant Prabhu and others.
The exhibition ’20 PHOTOGRAPHERS 20 STORIES’ at the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, Mumbai 2020 has been curated by Shiresh R. Karrale (Mumbai School of Photography), Mukesh Parpiani (Piramal Art Gallery, NCPA Mumbai) and Varsha Karrale (Mumbai).
