GOVERNOR DONATES RS. 50,000 TO BORIM DEVELOPMENT TRUST
Panaji: November 29, 2016 ….. The Governor Dr. (Smt.) Mridula Sinha on Tuesday donated Rs. 50,000/- to the Borim Development Trust, in appreciation of the good work they have been with regards to cleanliness, and to motivate them to further this cause. The Governor had earlier visited Borim for a function organised by the Trust, and was impressed with the way garbage was being collected from different parts of the village and then segregated and sent for disposal. The Governor appealed to the people of Goa to emulate the example set by the Trust in order to make villages in Goa clean.
The Governor who is a nominee of the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi for the Swachh Bharat Mission, has been working to promote a clean Goa. In the recent past, she had announced Rs. 50,000/- each for two villages, one from South Goa and other from North Goa, to the cleanest village. These awards will be presented to the deserving panchayats on October 2, 2017.
The Governor has announced Rs. 1.00 lakh to the cleanest city among Panaji, Mapusa, Ponda, Margao and Vasco. This award will be presented to the deserving Municipal body on Goa Liberation Day, December 19, 2016
In order to pursue and take this national programme of cleanliness to the grass root level, the Governor has called a meeting with Commissioner of Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP), Chief Officers of Municipal Councils, Supervisor, Safai Karmacharis from CCP and Municipal Councils, at the Raj Bhavan, Dona Paula on December 2, 2016, where she will ascertain the cleanliness conditions prevailing in the urban areas and give suggestions to them in this regard.
The Governor has also instructed her office to forward copies of reports and photographs about garbage problems and unhygienic conditions, as and when they appear in the daily newspapers, to the Directorates of Municipal Administration and Panchayats as well as other concerned authorities for their intervention and appropriate action.
GOA BUILDING AND OTHER CONSTRUCTION WORKERS’ WELFARE BOARD MEET HELD
Panaji, November 28, 2016 ….. Minister for Labour and Employment, Shri Avertano Furtado chaired the Goa Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board meeting that was held in the Conference Hall, Secretariat, Porvorim on Monday.
Representatives and stakeholders from the industrial sector were also present. Several issues were discussed which includes purchase of new vehicle for the Board, Financial matters related to the Board among other things.
INTERACTIVE SESSION ON BIODIVERSITY OF BUTTERFLIES HELD
Panaji, November 27, 2016 … Goa State Biodiversity Board(GSBB) had organized an interactive session at “Zuari Hall” International Centre Goa, Dona Paula, on November 19, 2016 on “Biodiversity of Butterflies and their Ecological Significance” by Dr. Vilas Bardeker, IFS, Chairperson Maharashtra State Biodiversity Board(MSBB).
The Guest speaker was Dr. Vilas Suryabhanji Bardekar, Indian Forest Service(IFS), former Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Government of Maharashtra also an author of book named: “Pokhila” chronicling his experience during his 82 days of abduction by a group of Bodo Militants in the West Kameng district in Arunachal Pradesh. He is an avid butterfly photographer and wildlife enthusiast with a vast repository of knowledge of Biodiversity.
The programme was convened by Dr. Manoj Borkar, Associate Professor, Chairman of Biodiversity Research Cell (BRC) and Centre for Research in Zoology (CRZ), Carmel College for Women, Nuvem, Goa, Founder Member of Goa State Biodiversity Board. Dr. Vilas Bardekar, IFS, narrated his experiences, anecdotes and field visits and answered the various questions raised to the satisfaction of all. Member Secretary Goa State Biodiversity Board Shri Pradip Sarmokadam briefly summarized the interactive session.
The program was well attended by a cross section of dignitaries, Members of Goa State Biodiversity Board; Chairpersons, Secretaries and members of Biodiversity Management Committees across the State; Members of Technical Support Groups and various Committees members of Goa State Biodiversity Board; students from various colleges of Goa and Goa University were present.

The film, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt, features the actors against the backdrop of stunning beaches and tree-lined roads. According to reports, it is believed that the shooting of the movie began in Goa. The scene was shot on a secluded beach with Shah Rukh Khan himself. Report says, Alia and SRK both of them had to walk a lot to reach their first mark for different shots as it was a walk and talk scene. An ATV was called, so that SRK and Alia could just ride the ATV up and down on the stretch of the beach.
No doubt, Goa is an ideal destination for those who look for a get away from the hum drums of life, looking for peace and tranquility. The song in the movie “Love you Zindagi” is a perfect example set against the picturesque backdrop of Goa depicting its beauty and various other facets. Some of the unique elements of Goa such as its pristine beaches, tiny roads, villages and heritage houses will make you fall in love with Goa all over again.

LOCAL HISTORY SEMINAR AT REIS MAGOS FORT ON NOV 29
Panaji, November 26, 2016 … Directorate of Archives and Archaeology in collaboration with Department of History Goa University is organizing the 19th Annual Local History Seminar at Reis Magos Fort, Verem, Bardez Goa on November 29, 2016.
The function will be inaugurated at the hands of Minister for Archives and Archaeology Shri Dayanand Mandrekar at 10:00 a.m.
The topic of the Seminar is “Goan Diaspora through the Ages and Symposium on the Gramdevta Worship in Goa:. In this regard many renowned scholars across Goa will be sharing their views on different topics. Dr. Celsa Pinto, former Director of Education will deliver the keynote address on this occasion.
READING ENRICHES KNOWLEDGE –CHIEF MINISTER
Panaji: November 24 ,2016 …. The Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has advised the students to strive to achieve more knowledge by reading other books apart from their academic books. Reading he said enriches knowledge and widens sphere of thinking thus helping to be a knowledgeable person of the society. He further mentioned that as we are living in scientific era we need to develop scientific attitude among ourselves.
Shri Parsekar was speaking as a Chief Guest at the inaugural function of Pernem Taluka Level School Science Exhibition-2016. The function was organized by Harmal Panchakroshi High School Harmal in collaboration with Department of Science and Technology, Goa State Council of Science and Technology at Harmal Pernem today. The selected projects of 17 schools were included in the exhibition.
The Chief Minister further said that exhibition is a good medium to bring awareness among the citizen in regards issues like garbage management , sustaining the environment air and water bodies for posterity.
Chief Minister also said that with the help of science and technology we can make best out of waste. Cleanliness, he said help to keep our surrounding healthy thus keeping us healthy too. He appreciated the selected students of various high school and remarked that they are talented students who can become the scientists of future age.
Shri Bhagirath Shetye, Deputy Director Education, Shri Dipak Parab, MS GSCST, Smt. Smita Parsekar< Headmistress, Shri Sudesh Natekar, Principal Late Shri Gopal Parsekar Higher Secondary School, Shri Vinaykumar Verenkar Rtd. Teacher, were among those who attended the function. Earlier the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for widening and beautification of road with a stretch of 2kmts from Harmal Tito to Bhumika Middle School Palye. The project will be undertaken by Goa Tourism and is estimated to cost Rs.3.82 crores. The construction work consists of 1.5wide pathway having 1800mts. stretch. Pavers for school children and pedestrians, decorative poles with led bulbs, planting of horticulture trees, fixing of cast iron benches and erection of signages etc. The project is expected to be completed in a period of six months.

CONSUMER PROTECTION COUNCIL MEET HELD
Panaji, November 23, 2016 …. The Goa State Consumer Protection Council Meeting was held at the Goa Secretariat in Porvorim on Wednesday. It was chaired by the Minister of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs and Chairperson of Goa State Consumer Protection Council, Shri. Dayanand Mandrekar.
Also present were, Secretary for Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Shri B.R. Singh IAS, Director of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Shri Mahesh V Corjuenkar, Coordinator of GOA CAN (Goa Civic & Consumer Action Network), Shri Roland Martins and heads and representatives of various government departments. Besides, bringing to focus consumer related issues, several measures were also discussed which could be undertaken by government departments and public undertakings in ensuring prompt and efficient service to the public.
CM INAUGURATES FOUR DAYS WORKSHOP ON “SKILL OF LANGUAGE”
Panaji: November 23,2016 …. The Chief Minister Shri Laxmikant Parsekar inaugurated four days on duty workshop on “Skill of Language” for school teachers ( Marathi and Konkani subject)and Government officials at a function held at Nalanda hall of EDC in the city today. The Workshop was organized by the Directorate of Official Language. The objective of the workshop is to impart training and information pertaining to grammer of both the languages to the participants.
The Chief Minister while speaking said that the Government has encouraged use of local languages in official transaction. Hence the business of Assembly has also begun in local languages. The workshop he said organized will help the participants to improve grammer and skill of language.
The Chief Minister further said that there are different kinds of crimes are taking place every day. Tips and instructions provided in the book Sawadh Rawat will be useful for people to make them alert from any untoward happening . He advised read the book and be carefull he added.
MLA and Chairman of EDC Shri Siddharth Kuncalkar in his address appreciated Directorate Official Language for the initiative taken to organize Skill in Language workshop for concerned people from teaching field and Government offices. He said the workshop will help the participants to improve their knowledge of grammer and language in large.
Shri Nanasaheb P.Jamadar and Shri R.N..Kulkarni both experts of Marathi Language were the resource persons for the workshop. School Teachers, Officials of various Government Departments and others participated in the workshop.
Shri Prakash Kamat Senior Journalist spoke about “Sawadh Ravaat” a Konkani version of English book “Watch Out” written by Dr. P.K. Mishra former DIG translated in to Konkani having title “Sawadh Ravaat” This book is about how to protect ourselves from crime, deceipt, forgery etc. He said this book contains important information pertaining to be careful about untoward incidents taking place around us.
“Sawadh Ravat” is a translation of English book written by Former DIG Dr.P.K. Mishra and translated by Sr, Journalist Shri Prakash Kamat was also released at the hands of Chief Mister on the occasion.
Ms.Sneha Sabnis Junior Translator compered the function while Shri Anil Sawant Asst. Directot proposed the vote of thanks.
