Sporting Clube de Goa knock out Churchill Brothers to retain cup

22/12/2014 …. Sporting Clube de Goa retained the trophy, after overcoming Churchill Brothers Sports Club 1-0 in Gfa’s knock out cup at Cuncolim ground, on Monday. Sporting Goa led 1-0 at the breather.

Sporting Goa had a first look at the goal when Anthony Wolfe flashed a header across the danger zone, but Sumeet Passi’s header flew just wide of the post.

In the 28th minute, Sporting Goa took the lead when Anthony Wolfe used his devastating pace to make a burst to the byline, before neatly cutting the ball back for Captain Rowllin Borges to lead by example and slice into the bottom corner.

Just before the interval, Sporting Goa midfielder Cajetan Fernandes tried an audacious lob from 45 yards out which had the Churchill goalkeeper at full stretch to tip over the cross bar.

After the change of ends the high tempo of the game remained constant as both teams were fully focused on winning.

Churchill Brothers’ menacing forward Odafe Okolie came closest to finding the equalizer when he stormed down on goal, but the brave Sporting Goa custodian Ravi Kumar dived at his feet to bring the situation under control.

In the end a disciplined performance from the Flaming Oranje, saw them come away with a sweet victory.

GFA President Elvis Gomes was present along with other GFA members. Sporting Goa took home the winner’s trophy and the 1 Lakh prize money, while Churchill Brothers had to settle for the runners up trophy and a cheque of Rs.50, 000.

Chief Minister laxmikhant Parsekar honours state sports personalities at the annual Geno Sports Awards

07/12/2014 ….Chief Minister laxmikhant Parsekar recently honored various sports personalities at the annual Geno Sports Awards held for the year 2013-14

Mr Parsekar presented the Geno Awards in the following categories such as Best Sportsman: Yash Fadte (squash); Best Sportswoman: Anura Prabhudesai (badminton); Best Upcoming Sportsman: Nitish Belurkar (chess); Best Upcoming Sportswoman: Lifa Gama (football); Best Organiser: Paresh Kamat (Goa Athletic Association); Best Coach: Nilesh Naik (tennis ball cricket); Best Team: Goa-India football team and Best College: St Xavier’s College, Mapusa.

Apart from these awards, two prominent international sports personalities from Goa woman cricketer Shikha Pandey and international football referee Maria Rebello were presented with special awards for their outstanding performance.
Michael Sequeira of PTI was also felicitated on the occasion for his contribution in the field of sports journalism for past several years.
Speaking on the occasion chief minister laxmikhant Parsekar said that there was a need for business or corporate houses to come forward help budding sports talents of the state like geno pharmaceuticals were doing
Chairman and managing director of Geno Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd Dilip Salgaocar said that the main idea of having the geno sports award was to encourage the sports personalities of the state with good track record in different fields

 

DY.CM INAUGURATES BOXING HALL AT PEDDEM SPORTS COMPLEX

Panaji; Nov 29, 2014 …. The Deputy Chief Minister Shri Francis D’Souza has said that the Government is investing in sports sector to boost sports talent in the state. The Government has created  infrastructure  for sports at Peddem  sports complex and it  has now became the center of excellence due to the provision of various sports facilities like swimming pool, running track, tennis court and present one is boxing hall.

Shri D’Souza was speaking after inaugurating Boxing Hall and 1st Goa Invitation Boxing Championship (Senior Male) at Peddem Sports Complex at Mapusa yesterday. The function was organized by The Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs in association with Goa Boxing Association.

Shri D’Souza further speaking also said that there is no dearth of sport talent in Goa but only thing is required to have adequate facilities for its development and  the Government has undertaken various measures in this regard. He complimented the stakeholders for their endeavour for making Peddem sports complex as center of excellence and congratulated the participants of boxing championship.

Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Shri Ramesh Tawadkar  said that Government aims to provide maximum facilities to sports with an intention  to encourage sport in the state. The boxing hall will help to upcoming young boxers to attain training so as to excel at state or national level. He congratulated the participants of boxing tournament and wished them a success.  

MLA and President of Goa Boxing Association Shri Rohan Khaunte  in his welcome address complimented the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs for providing boxing hall which he said will help  to local budding boxers to  develop  boxing in the state. This is the proper place where our young upcoming boxers  can avail training, develop their skill in boxing. He hoped  that our upcoming boxer to excel in boxing to bring laurels  name and fame to Goa.     

Shri Sandip Falari Chairman MMC also spoke on the occasion.

Kum. Santosh Harijan, Winner of Asian Junior Boxing Championship Kum. Niket Zarine Winner of World Junior Boxing Championship and Shri Chiranjivi Boxing Coach were those who were felicited at the hands of chief guest Shri Francis D’Souza and Guest of honour Shri  Ramesh Tawadkar respectively.

Shri Yeshwant Tavde, Director Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Shri Filip Dias, Vice-President Goa Boxing Association, Shri Lenin Gama Secretary Goa Boxing Association and others attended the function.

The function was compered by Smt. Jenifer Gonsalves. While Smt. Juliana Gurjao Colaco, Deputy Director Sports and Youth Affairs proposed the vote of thanks.

The meeting took place at the secretariat at porvorim where in chief minister Manohar parrikar along with state government officials as well as officials of central government were a part of it

state congress party demands immediate withdrawal of agricultural tenancy act

01/11/2014 …. The state congress party has demanded from the state government to immediately withdraw the agricultural tenancy act and cancelled it as soon as possible stating that the concerned act was contrary and defamatory to the purpose of the act passed by the state government

Sporting Clube de Goa start campaign with a comfortable win

29/10/2014  …. Maverick striker, Boima Karpeh netted a brace as Sporting Clube de Goa overcame United Sports Club 3-2 in the Durand Cup quarter final group B match at Raia Panchayat ground, on Wednesday. Sporting Goa led 2-1 at the interval.

Anthony Wolfe made his debut for the Flaming Oranje alongside Boima Karpeh and they struck up an immediate cohesive partnership, with both getting their names onto the score sheet.

Sporting Goa got off to a dream start after just 93 seconds when Rowllin Borges rolled a free kick across the edge of the box and Boima Karpeh placed it into the back of the net.

Four minutes later Boima struck again, after latching onto to an effective through ball from Wolfe.

United SC battled hard and was soon rewarded when Sankar Oraon took control of a short back pass in the Sporting Goa defence to capitalize and pull a goal back.

Changing over, Sporting managed to regain their two goal cushion after Wolfe was brought down inside the box. Wolfe dusted the grass off his knees, before stepping up to steer home the resulting penalty.

United SC came back with another reply, when Sujay Oraon’s dipping shot from the edge of the box spectacularly crept under the bar to make 2-3. It was a nervous end to the game, but Sporting Goa held onto victory.

STANDING FIRE ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING ON OCT 31

Panaji; Oct 29, 2014 …. The Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs is holding the 36th Meeting of the Standing Fire Advisory Council in Goa on October 31 to 1 November, 2014 at Hotel Grand Mercure Candolim.

Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly Shri Rajendra Arlekar will be the Chief Guest and will inaugurate the conference at 10.30am on October 31, 2014.

The function will be chaired by Shri R. R. Verma, Director General, Fire Service, Civil Defence and Home Guard, Shri R. K. Shrivastava, Principal Secretary, Revenue and Officiating Chief Secretary, Government of Goa, Shri Sanjay Agarwal, Director, Disaster Management, Government of India, Shri D.K. Shami, Dy. Fire Adviser, Government of India, Shri Sandeep Rai Rathore, Inspector General, National Disaster Response Force and Civil Defence and Shri Ashok Menon, Director, Goa Fire and Emergency Services.

The Role of the Standing Fire Advisory Council is to advise the Government of India on matters relating to technology and human Resources development aspects of Fire Service in the Country, including the State, Union Territories and Urban Local Authorities.

The present session will deal with a variety of important Agenda matters prepared by various States. The matters such as framing of a Central Legislation on Fire Safety in the Country, Fire Safety Bill, Organizational issues of the Fire and Emergency Service in the Country etc. will be discussed in the meeting. The Conference will conclude on November 1, 2014 at 1.00pm. 

GCA Managing committee member sudhin kamat alleges of gca president asking under 19 goa ranji team to re-playing its washed out cricket matches against opponents in South zone group last year even so as to giving other state team a chance to top the group

25/10/2014 ….. In what could be termed as a match fixing in to the affairs of the cricket league matches Managing committee member of the goa cricket association sudhin kamat has alleged that the current gca president vinod phadke last year had purposely asked the under 19 goa ranji team to playing its re-cricket matches against South zone group even when the team had topped in its group table so just to give the other state team a chance to top the group

Addressing media persons mr kamat alleged that it was mr phadke who had had asked the teams of other association such as andra pradesh, Hyderabad and Karnataka requesting them to ask gca to play its washed out cricket matches again after which the goa ranji team under 19 had lost its re-matches even though the team had topped the group league table earlier thus denying goa cricket association to win the under 19 ranji tournament

Denying allegations about asking the goa under 19 team to re-play the matches gca president balu phadke said that it was nothing in his hand and that certain decision were taken by the six association who were a part of the group league

Meanwhile Commenting over the issue of sanguem cricket ground gca treasurer vilas desai said that there was a need to praise gca for developing the sanguem ground and that there had been no illegalities while taking up the ground work which the gca president was mentioning of
