state government decides to increase the present fishing ban from forty five days to 61 days in goa

22-05-2013 … The state government on Wednesday decided to increased the present fishing ban from forty five days to 61 days in goa starting from 1st of June up to 31st of July ..

Addressing press media after the cabinet meet at the secretariat at porvorim chief minister manohar parrikar said that the 61 days fish ban would be applicable on mechanized and motorized fishing vessels operating in goan waters …

Stating that reliance infrastructure limited immediately switches over to gas base power Parrikar said that the cabinet had proposed to continue with the purchase of power from reliance with immediate switch over to gas until the term of agreement which was till august 2014 …

Parrikar informed that the cabinet had approved of bifurcating archives and archeology department; give five years age relaxation for teachers in vocational stream and also to give the old approach road from banastarim side for the market at banastarim

Meanwhile commenting over the mining and special status issue after the cabinet briefing chief minister parrikar said he had asked for an appointment with prmie minister dr manmohan singh in between 1st to 5th of june next month

 

 

state government to construct 2.8 kms long fly over along the exciting borim-curti nalllah in ponda city

21-05-2013 …. In a way to create a link joining the ponda city with the adjoining by pass of borim and curti the state government would construct a 2.8 kms long fly over along the exciting borim-curti nalllah in ponda city

Addressing media press conference chief minister manohar parrikar said that the fly over would relieve much of the traffic pressure from the ponda city and would be undertaken through gsidc with an overwhelming cost of around 80 crores of rupees

Commenting over the letter written by the Deputy Secretary Nandan Singh Ministry of Road Transport and Highways asking for immediate necessary measures to avoid harassment to truckers and transporters and take steps for withdrawal of undue levy of taxes and fees, including the newly started entry tax Parrikar said that though he had not received any letter till date he would written to the prime minister as well as cabinet secretary asking for the authenticity of the officer who wrote a letter to the state government

Meanwhile parrikar also stated that even though the state of Maharashtra had made an increase in their milk prices he would not allow the dairy suppliers in goa to increase the prices of milk ..

deepak dhavlikar could contest cumbarjua seat for next assembly elections

17-05-2013 … Even though three years more are left for the next state assembly elections to be held in goa, goa’s oldest political party Maharashtra gomantak party has already started its work in the congress ruling constituency of cumbarjua where in cooperation minister Deepak dhavlikar has started to hold meetings among mgp supporter’s and other’s as well as stated to take up development works in cumbarjua ..

It may be noted that in early days cumbarjua constituency has been the baston of the ancient old mgp party where in political stalwarts like late dr kashinath jhalmi, and even the present congress mla pandurang madkaikar had earlier won on the mgp symbol ….

according to sources if one goes to see the present scenario says something else where in it is believed that no sooner son of north goa mp shripad naik,  siddesh naik had shown his interest to contest the next state assembly elections the political situation seems to have almost changed in cumbarjua where a political source informed goanreporter that “to give a good fight to the north goa mp son sideesh who is trying to contest from this cumbarjua constituency , cumbarjua mla pandurang madkaikar and priol mla Deepak dhavlikar has joined hands to exchange their seats where in Deepak would fight the next assembly elections from cumbarjua constituency while madkaikar would fight from priol constituency as the next assembly elections would be mostly fought on the lines of reservations of seats and as there are lot of st voters in priol constituency where as cumbarjua also had a sufficient amount of mgp voters till date if Deepak want to fight from cumbarjua constituency”

When the same question was put in front of the cooperation minister and priol mla Deepak dhavlikar he said “Priol is my constituency and won’t leave it but if there are reservations done before the next assembly elections then I could take a call to contest from cumbarjua constituency as I have been working there and doing a lot of developmental works among the voters of cumbarjua constituency but it all depends on the 2011 census report”

Dhavliakr said “at present we are in the coalition government and we hope to stand in that in future too and with that we can even ask for the cumbarjua seat for my party in the next assembly elections and then I would certainly jump for the cumbarjua seat on behalf of my mgp party and fight the elections there as a candidate”

Dhavlikar said “The mgp party can decided on four to five constituencies and I can stand up anywhere as I have been working for people in some of the constituencies but finally it is up to the people”

 Meanwhile Gpcc president subash shirodkar said “ though the state assembly elections are far away we are not bothered as whoever is trying to contest from cumbarjua constituency for the next assembly elections which are schedule in 2017 as it is up to the people to judge whom to vote for and any one can show his interest in contesting assembly elections from any constituency of the state’

pilerne citizens forum raises bogus adhar card issue in goa

16-05-2013 … Stating that a lot of bogus adhar card could have been used to avail state government schemes members of the pilerene citizens forum on Thursday have demanded to the president of india pranab mukherjee asking for an inquiry in to the issue of adhar cards being issued in to the state of goa..

The forum had also addressed the copy of the letter to the chairman of unique identification authority of india, nandan nilekani, hon-ble minister for state, ministry of statistics and programme implementation, shrikant kumar jena and to the chief secretary of goa vijayan requesting for scrutinizing the process of issuance of adhar card in to the state of goa and to undertake a through scrutiny of the adhar cards issued in the state

Addressing press media in panjim advisor of pilerne citizens forum advocate yatish naik said that since the state already had the issue of fake ration cards being issued in the past the same may be the basis of issuing fake adhar cards and such fake adhar cards may derail the whole gammoth of social security and beneficial measure proposed by the state as well as by the central government to the needy

 Naik also said that there was a need to verify     if certain types of bogus adhar cards were issued also to foreigners or not in the state

fishing community in goa raises concernd over fishing ban issue

15-05-2013 … With no statement coming out from the state government over the exact number of days being considered for fishing ban in to the state of goa the fishing community from goa are put in dilemma of weather to going on a 75 days fishing ban or to carry on with the 45 days ban as per the supreme court order …

It may be noted that The state government had shown interest of reconsidering its decision of imposing 75-day-long fishing ban in the state from this year onwards but till date no decision has come from the government side over the same which has forced the fishing community to be concerned as what steps they should take on fishing ban and what message to pass on to their labourers who would go on for holidays to their native places during the fishing ban

The fishing community in the state was divided over the issue with traditional fishermen welcoming the prolonged ban period, while mechanized trawlers has opposed the ban claiming it to be too long after which the government had contemplated the possibility of shortening the ban duration from 75 days to 60 days or even of 45 days as it was practiced till last season.  

Speaking to goanreporter chairman of Mandovi Fishermen’s Marketing Cooperative Society menino afonso said that that time was moving on and they were concerned over the fishing ban issue as the state government had to inform that about the exact number of days on fishing ban a month before so that they could plan up their thins for the next fishing season

President of the All Goa Fishermen’s Federation John Mendes some of the fishing trawlers had already started to wind up their fishing activities of the season but were in tensions for getting labourers for the next fishing season since the dates of fishing ban were not announced yet by the state government …

Speaking to media reporter’s nri commissioner dr Wilfred mesquite said it was difficult to understand as how the opposition spokesperson could communalize the court decision on the cow slaughtering issue when they were so many acts which put a ban on animal slaughtering and was not a simple issue for the court to decide on

Mesquita said that people do eat meat which was mostly eaten by minority community but the issue had come due to acts which were had made the issue a complicated one in the state of goa and Karnataka …

ACOLOP committee in goa to take stock of the preparations for the 3rd Lusofonia Games to be held in Goa in November

13-05-2013 … An 11-member delegation from the Association of the Portuguese Speaking Olympic Committees headed by its president Alex Wong on Thursday visited the bambolim university site and took stock of the preparations for the 3rd Lusofonia Games to be held in Goa in November.

ACOLOP co-ordinating panel is down in Goa for site inspection of all the competition and non-competition venues

 The delegation will basically review the progress of the works being undertaken by the Government besides also considering the report by the working group from Macau and Brazil which inspected the works last month

the Lusofonia Games is a multinational multi-sport event organized by the ‘The Association of the Portuguese Speaking Olympic Committees’ which involves athletes coming from Lusophone Portuguese-speaking countries, namely those belonging to the Community of Portuguese Language Countries, but also others where there are significant Portuguese communities or that have a common past with Portugal.

The 1st Lusofonia Games were hosted by Macau, from 7th to 15th October 2006, comprising 733 athletes from 11 countries some of which were international sports stars.

In the 2009 edition hosted by Lisbon 1500 athletes participated from 12 countries.

The 3rd edition of the Lusofonia games will be held in Goa, India between 2nd-10th Nov, 2013

 ACOLOP secretary Mario Rosa of Angola, vice-president Franklin Palma of Mozambique are a part of the delegation who at the site had a detailed discussion about the ongoing preparations for the conduct of the games in goa and is then expected to give its final say on the conduct of the Games in Goa once having a meeting with the state government officials.

Games CEO and sports secretary Keshav Chandra also made a detailed presentation about the current status of the ongoing works concerned with the infrastructure for hosting the events and mentioned that all types of works were going on as per schedule and would be completed on time.

Mayor of the corporation city of panjim surendra furtado on Thursday blamed various casino’s operating along the mandovi belt in the capital city for creating nuisance of garbage in to the river mandovi which later flew to all parts of the river seashore area along the city coast line

Speaking to goanreporter ccp mayor surendra furtado said he was given to understand that the garbage which came flowing down to the river belt was released by the casinos operating in mandovi river and asked  chief minister manohar parrikar to act strictly on the casinos which were operating in mandovi river

Furtado said that there was a need from the state government side to act strictly on such casinos which were throwing garbage in to the middle of the sea

Meanwhile ccp commissioner sanjit rodrigues said that ccp had no alternative but to clear garbage that was washed ashore near Miramar, campal beach and ferry wharf which was a huge manual task and ccp was doing it

11-05-2013 … President of the All Goa Fishermen’s Federation John Mendes has criticized the state government for not coming out with a clear policy of weather the state government was serious of putting a fishing ban of 75 days in to the state of goa or not which had created ruckus among the fishing community …

It may be noted that The state government had shown interest of reconsidering its decision of imposing 75-day-long fishing ban in the state from this year onwards, after fishing associations objected to such a long shutout period.

The fishing community in the state was divided over the issue with traditional fishermen welcoming the prolonged ban period, while mechanized trawlers has opposed the ban claiming it to be too long after which the government had contemplated the possibility of shortening the ban duration from 75 days to 60 days or even of 45 days as it was practiced till last season.

Currently, the fishing ban in the state is from June 15 to July 31, every year

Speaking to goanreporter President of the All Goa Fishermen’s Federation John Mendes said if the state government was not ready to impose a 75 days fishing ban in goa then the state government should have not announced it as it had created confusion in to the minds of the boat owners community

Mendes said it was wrong from the state government side of just giving assurances on the 75 days fishing ban and not implementing it

Mendes also stated that the state government was not firm in their decision and such confusions would create riffles among the fishing community
