STREET VENDORS PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN SOCIETY

Panaji: August 31, 2016  … The Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) recently organized a one day workshop for all municipal councils in state with the help of experts from the Regional Centre for Urban and Environmental Studies (RCUES), Hyderabad  

The Mission Director for the National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM) Mr. Elvis Gomes who is also the Director of Urban Development Department and Member Secretary, GSUDA in his inaugural address said that Street Vendors play an important role in society and that despite the Supreme Court directions and the mandate in the Street vendors Act 2014, municipalities had failed to address the problem of the street vendors  and it was time to organize the street vendors as stipulated in the Act, offer them the protection and include them in the process of development. He recalled that after the High court order in 1997, large number of street vendors were displaced and councils had failed to rehabilitate them despite the assurance given in the High Court. He further stated that it was high time that we make best use of the provisions contained in the Act to give a sense of security to vendors and organize them in specially designated vending zones.

          The Research Officers from RCUES Mr. Rama Rao and Mr. Ernest Leslie guided the participants in the preparation of city Street Vendors Plan, GIS Mapping, street vendors survey, profiling,  making identity cards and the financial incentives available under NULM. They also showed that properly organized street vendors are an asset to the society and if given an opportunity, they can rise above their poverty status. Mrs. Celsa Antao, Coordinator, NULM proposed the vote of thanks.

The idea is to encourage youth participation in politics by recognizing the positive change these young legislatures have brought in the society.

HOME NURSING HAS VAST DEMAND AND SCOPE-DY. CHIEF MINISTER

Panaji: March 24, 2016 … Deputy Chief Minister Shri Francis D’souza has said that there is vast demand and scope for home nursing in the state. The students who have secured training should always remember that they are the ones who have to render services to the needy people.

Shri D’ souza was speaking as Chief Guest at the valedictory function organized by Indian Red Cross Society in the city today. The Indian Red Cross Society conducted three month course of Home Nursing in their office where in 35 students were participated in the course. The students participated in the course were given certificates of course at the hands of chief guest.

Shri D’ souza further speaking said that learning never ends therefore everybody should keep on learning. He advised the students to treat patients with love and care so that they feel happy in their time of agony. He also told the students to be patient and opt for enhancing their experience and knowledge of nursing to render better services to the patients. He also congratulated the students for successfully completing their course.

Dr Avinash Dhakankar advised the students to cherish help and cooperative attitude which he said is a must in this profession. He advised the students to respond to those who are in need of medical services. The students he said has been given basic teaching about anatomy, physiology, intramuscular injection, sugar testing, pressure and  various tips of first aid need to start their practice and opt for enhancing their medical knowledge hereafter.

The Deputy Chief Minister presented certificates and kitbags to the students and later on administered oath of cleanliness ( Swachh Bharat ) to the participants.

VISHWAJIT INAUGURATES WORKSHOP ON DRUG ACCESSIBILITY, AVAILABILITY, AFFORDABILITY

Panaji: March 20, 2018 …  The Minister for Health, Shri Vishwajit Rane recently inaugurated  a workshop on ‘Accessibility, Availability, and Affordability of Pharmaceutical Products’ organised by the Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration, Goa in collaboration with ASSOCHAM and National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority.

            While speaking on the occasion, Shri. Rane said that the costs of important drugs would decrease as stakeholders such as the industry and the pricing authority interact with each other for solutions. This would also increase the outreach of the government to help people with medical facilities Shri Rane said.

            Present on the occasion were Director, Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration, Smt. Jyoti Sardesai among others.

            The workshop aimed to familiarize stakeholders with issues regarding affordability and availability of essential drugs. The resource speakers at the workshop shared their views on various topics relating to availability and affordability of pharmaceutical products.

TRAFFIC POLICE HOLDS ROAD SAFETY LECTURE AT DIP

Panaji: February 07, 2019 … As a part of Traffic Safety Week, employees of Department of Information and Publicity were enlightened with Traffic Safety rules and measures towards controlling road accidents.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Shri. Dharmesh Angle delivered lecture on Traffic Safety wherein he urged the gathering to follow rules and regulation regarding road in order to ensure safe road transport.

Shri. Angle informed about various types of accidents and measures to be taken to ensure safe driving. Shri. Angle insisted that pillion riders should also be aware of road so that in the situation of accident he can be able to escape from grievous injury. Many a times pillion riders remain busy talking to rider and have no idea of exact situation on road, which may cause him danger in the case of accident, Shri. Angle further stated. He also lamented on importance of helmet wearing and explained how helmets have played significant role in reducing fatal accidents in last year.

Director, Information and Publicity Shri. Narayan S. Navti spoke on importance of implementation of traffic safety measures and urged to follow the rules to ensure safe driving.

SHRIPAD INAUGURATES LOKOTSAV 19

Margao:  December 10, 2018 … Union Minister of State for Ayush(Ind),  Shri Sripad Naik Inaugurated the “Lokotsav 19” – two day event organized by Adarsh Yuva Sangh and Balaram Education Institute in association with the Department of Art and Culture Government of Goa at Amone Poinguin, Canacona in the distinguished presence of Local MLA, Shri Isidore Fernandes; ZD member, Dr. (Smt.) Puspa Ayya, General Manager, NABARD Smt. Kamaxi Pai and others yesterday.

Other dignitaries present on the occasion were Ex. Minister and MLA Shri Ramesh Tawadkar; President of Balalram Education Society, Shri Arjun Gaonkar; Acting principle of Balalram Education High School, Shri Kamalakar Mhalshi; Sarpanchas of Shristal, Poingunim, Loliem and Agonda  alongwith panch members.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Naik said he is very happy to associate with such type of programmes where our traditional culture are showcased and added that one should encourage this type of activities to keep the tradition and our culture alive.

Shri Naik further urged the youths to come forward to organize such types of programme in all the rural areas of the State to ensure the youth’s involvement and development of village. The motive behind this type of programme is to make every youth independent, he said.

Lokotsav is a good example to create awareness and to showcase our traditional culture and our lifestyle to the outside world and added that the various natural dishes prepared and displayed by the local people, self help group is the way to acquire knowledge and to pass it on the coming generations, he said.

Traditional games are slowly disappearing and we need to start them.  These games not only provided entertainment but helped up to remain healthy, he pointed.

Congratulating the organizer of “Lokotsav 19” Shri Naik urged the tribal communities to come together to save our culture. Organic farming need to be encouraged to control diseases developed through use of fertilizers. Various schemes provided by Government to promote organic farming should be apprised to the people at such lokotsav’s, he remarked.

MLA, Shri Isidore Fernandes, Shri Tawadkar and Smt. Kamaxi Pai also spoke on the occasion.

ALL GOA POSTER COMPETITION ON CONSUMER AWARENESS

Panaji : March 27, 2020 …The Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs is organizing a State – level poster Competition for the students of standard 9th to 12th on the theme “Consumer Awareness”, on the occasion of World Consumer Rights Day 2020.

          The Competition will be held in two stages. Each student can forward one original entry only. Each poster shall be on “Half imperial” chart paper. In the first stage one student can forward his original entry on the theme “Consumer Awareness” to the following address under the Seal and Signature of the Headmaster / Principal on or before March 31, 2020 alongwith the contact details. The Address is Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, 1st lift, 2nd floor, Junta House Panaji-Goa, 403001.

          The best twenty entries will be selected for the second round to be held at a designated venue in Panaji to be declared later (tentatively mid of April 2020)| and the students will have to carry their own drawing material.

          The topic for the second round will be give at the venue on the spot. All the qualified entries for second round will be awarded certificate of Merit.

          The first prize for best Posters at the second round is Rs. 5,000/-, the second prize is Rs. 3,000/- and the third prize is Rs. 2,000/-. There will be 4 consolation prize of Rs. 500/- each.
