Goan Reporter:SAFETY MEASURES DURING HEATWAVE

Panaji: March 31, 2026                                               

          State Disaster Management Authority / Revenue Department have issued safety measures in view of the rising temperature across the State of Goa. Citizens are advised to take necessary precautions to reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses and ensure personal safety.

To stay safe and protected it is advised to listen to Radio, watch TV, read Newspaper for local weather news or download weather information related mobile app, drink sufficient water and as often as possible, even if not thirsty, wear light weight, light-colored, loose, and porous cotton clothes, use protective goggles, umbrella/hat, shoes or chappals while going out in sun, carry water with you while travelling, if working outside, use a hat or an umbrella and also use a damp cloth on your head, neck, face and limbs, use ORS, coconut water homemade drink like lassi, torani (rice water), lemon water, buttermilk, etc. which help to re-hydrate the body, open door and windows to ventilate cooking area adequately, visit a doctor immediately, if feeling faint or ill.

As regards to the animals, keep them in shade and give them enough of water to drink, keep some drinking water for birds in small pots on the roof/balcony, keep home cool, use curtain, shutters or sunshade and open windows at night, use fan, damp clothing and take bath in cold water frequently, provide cool drinking water near work place. Workers are advised to avoid direct sunlight, schedule strenuous jobs to cooler times of the day, Increase the frequency and length of rest breaks for outdoor activities, additional attention must be given towards pregnant women’s and others with a medical condition.

Similarly, do not leave children or pets in parked vehicles, avoid going out in the sun, especially between 12.00 noon and 3.00 p.m., avoid wearing dark, heavy or tight clothing, avoid strenuous activities when the outside temperature is high, avoid cooking during peak hours, avoid alcohol, tea, coffee, and carbonated soft drinks, which dehydrates the body, avoid high-protein food and do not eat stale food.

Goan Reporter:COMMISSIONING OF EVMS AND VVPATS HELD

Panaji: April 01, 2026

 

 

Office of Returning Officer Ponda Assembly Constituency has Commissioned the EVMs and VVPATs to be used in Bye Election at Ponda Assembly Constituency.

 

After finalization of list of Contesting Candidates and Second Randomization of EVMs and VVPATs. EVMs and VVPATs are commissioned Polling Station wise including Reserve EVMs and VVPATs at the Returning Office/ Assistant Returning Officer level, such as installing Ballot Paper on Ballot Unit, Candidate Setting in Control, Unit and Symbol Loading in VVPAT, etc. Detailed instructions on commissioning of EVMs and VVPATs are mentioned in Manual on Electronic Voting Machine, which is available in ECI website: https://www.eci.gov.in/evm-vvpat.

 

All the Contesting Candidates were requested to remain present themselves or appoint their representatives to oversee the Commissioning of EVMs and VVPATs. Thus, Election Agents Shri. Haresh Naik of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Shri. Uday Rane of the Indian National Congress were present for the Commissioning. They also conducted Mock Poll in randomly selected 5% of EVMs and VVPATs by casting 1000 votes and verified the electronic result with the VVPAT slips count. A total of 03 EVMs and VVPATs were used for Mock Poll and 03 number of VVPAT slips were counted and matched with the CU count.

 

After completion of Commissioning of EVMs and VVPATs, these machines were shifted to the Strong Room, as per the storage and security protocol prescribed by the Election Commission of India. The Strong Room will be opened in the presence of the contesting candidates/their representatives under videography on dispersal day.

Goan reporter:DFES TO ORGANIZE POSTER COMPETITION FOR SCHOOL STUDENTS

The Directorate of Fire & Emergency Services (DFES) will observe National Fire Service Day on April 14, 2026. As part of the commemorative activities, a Poster Competition will be organised for school students across the State on April 04, 2026 at various Fire Stations.

 

The competition aims to promote fire safety awareness among young students and encourage them to actively contribute towards building a safer and more informed society through creative expression.

 

The competition will be conducted in two categories Group I and Group II. Group I will consist of students of the age 7 to 10 years and the Topic will be “Stop, Drop and Roll-Stay Safe from Fire”. Group II will consist of students of the age 11 to 14 years and Topic will be “Fire Safety Awareness for a Safer Society”. The duration of the competition will be two hours, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.

 

The competition will be held at the following venues under the jurisdiction of respective Fire Stations; Bicholim Fire Station- Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Govt. The Directorate urges schools, parents, and students to actively participate in this initiative and contribute towards spreading awareness on fire prevention and safety practices.

 

Goan Reporter:GSCPCR TO CONDUCT AWARENESS AND OUTREACH PROGRAMMES

The Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (GSCPCR) will conduct awareness and outreach programmes for Children, Teachers, Parents, Police Personnel and other stakeholders on child rights and child protection laws. The commission will address complaints of child rights violations, will conduct inquiries, take necessary action and monitor the implementation of relevant laws.

 

The Pending cases of the commission will be taken up on priority to ensure timely redressal. The Commission will work with dedication towards the welfare of Children and protecting their Rights.

 

The public is encouraged to reach out to the Commission for any concerns related to child rights appealed by the commission includes shri. Shashikant Punaji, Chairperson along with the Members, Snehal Salgaonkar, Sanjiwani Dessai, Shalaka Dessai, Esther Roe Torres and Sofia De Souza. The Commission has assumed charge recently.

Also, a power shut down has been arranged on March 31, 2026 from 09.00 am to 02.00 pm at 11 KV Savoiverem Feeder to carry out urgent maintenance works. Affected areas are Karmale Keri, Pisgal, Arla, Appem and surrounding areas.

Further, a power shut down has been arranged on March 31, 2026 from 09.00 am to 01.00 pm at Samarth DTC to carry out urgent maintenance works. Affected areas are Samarth Residency baretto Apts, peace heaven and surrounding areas.

Panaji: March 27, 2026:Nyay Sanhita Exhibition Showcases Goa’s Lead in New Criminal Laws Implementation, which commenced on March 26 at Kala Academy, a three-day State-level exhibition is being held to showcase Goa’s progress in implementing the new criminal laws and strengthening the justice delivery system. The exhibition is designed to create awareness among the public, especially students and youth, by presenting complex legal processes in a simple and accessible manner. The exhibition offers a comprehensive overview of the criminal justice process, from crime scene investigation to courtroom proceedings, while showcasing the State’s focus on modern, efficient and citizen-centric governance. The exhibition also features interactive displays explaining the functioning of various departments including Police, Fire Services, Prosecution, Forensic Science and Judiciary, demonstrating strong inter-departmental coordination. It also highlights advancements in forensic infrastructure, modern policing systems and digital integration, while offering insights into career opportunities in policing and forensic science. Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant said, “Under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Hon’ble Home Minister Amit Shah, India has transitioned from colonial-era laws to a modern, citizen-centric justice system.” He further stated, “The purpose of this exhibition is to create awareness among the public, especially our youth and students, and to make the justice system more accessible and efficient.” CM Dr. Pramod Sawant also highlighted that Goa has emerged as a leading state in the implementation of these laws and commended the Goa Police Department for its efforts in strengthening awareness, infrastructure and inter-departmental coordination. Speaking on the occasion, Director General of Police Shri Alok Kumar said, “The entire system, including Police, Judiciary, Prosecution and Forensic Departments, has been digitally integrated to ensure faster and more transparent processes.” He added, “This achievement has been possible due to the continuous monitoring and guidance of the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary.”  The exhibition was attended by the Director General of Police Shri Alok Kumar, Director of Prosecution Smt. Panaji: March 27, 2026:     District Magistrate, North Goa has notifies extension of time period to prohibit entry and plying of Heavy Commercial Goods Vehicles (HCGV) (Multi Axel Vehicles) on the stretch of roads from foothill of Chorla Ghat on NH-748AA on the Keri to Belgaum road to the following routes to & fro, for the period from March 26, 2026 to September 26, 2026 except between 10:00 pm to 05:00 am.

Routes are as follows; from Dattawadi, Sankhali junction to the end of Goa State border on the Goa-Belgavi NH-748AA on the Chorla Ghat, from (PHC) Sankhali Junction to end of the Goa State border on NH-748AA on Chorla Ghat, Honda Junction to end of the Goa State border on NH-748AA on Chorla Ghat and from Industrial Training Institute, Honda Sattari to Village Panchayat Morlem, Sattari.
