DEPOSIT OF FIRE ARMS

Panaji : March 12, 2020 …. The District Magistrate, North Goa have directed all arm license holders in North Goa District to deposit their firearms at the nearest Police Station of their respective jurisdiction. All the firearms deposited will be returned to the license holder after five days from counting i.e. after the Election process is over.

Any person having a threat to his or her person/property should approach the Director General of Police, for providing necessary security by the Police, but under no circumstances will any person be allowed to carry his own personal licensed firearm/s or otherwise except with special permission or exemption granted by the District Magistrate.

CENTRAL MINISTRY OF HEALTH ISSUES TRAVEL ADVISORY REGARDING CORONAVIRUS

Panaji : March 8, 2020 … The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India has issued a Travel advisory in view of the novel Coronavirus (nCoV19) in the passed few days. The advisory states that in view of the spurt of cases being reported from China and other countries, travellers / Indian citizens are advised to refrain from travel to China. People travelling to China henceforth will be quarantined on return. Those planning a visit to India from China should take note that existing visas (including eVisa already issued) are no longer valid for any foreign national travelling from China. Intending visitors may contact Embassy in Beijing (vi**********@*****ov.in) or the Consulates in Shanghai (cc************@*****ov.in) and Guangzhou (vi************@*****ov.in) to apply fresh for an Indian visa.

          The Indian Embassy in China continues to remain contactable 24×7 on two hotline numbers +8618610952903 and +8618612083629 and a dedicated email he**************@*****ov.in. Indian nationals in need of any assistance may get in touch with the Embassy on these hotlines and email.

          Indian citizens are further advised to refrain from non-essential travel to Singapore, Republic of Korea, Islamic Republic of Iran and Italy.

          People coming from Republic of Korea, Iran and Italy or those having history of travel to these countries may be quarantined for 14 days on arrival to India.           Those having compelling reasons to travel to these countries should follow simple public health measures at all times. Observe good personal hygiene, practice frequent hand washing with soap, follow respiratory etiquettes-cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing, avoid close contact with people who are unwell or showing symptoms of illness, such as cough, runny nose etc, avoid contact with live animals and consumption of raw/undercooked meats, avoid travel to farms, live animal markets or where animals are slaughtered and wear a mask if you have respiratory symptoms such as cough or runny nose.

          If you feel sick on flight, while travelling back to India, inform the airlines crew about illness, seek mask and the self-reporting format from the airline crew, avoid close contact with family members or fellow travelers, follow the directions of airline crew while disembarking, immediately report facts to the Airport Health Office/Immigration Office and Helpline number (011-23978046) and follow the direction of the airport health officer as issued by the helpline.

          If you feel sick within a span of 28 days after return from Coronavirus affected areas; immediately call the Helpline number (011-23978046) and follow the direction issued, maintain effective self-isolation at home and with others, observe good personal hygiene, practice frequent hand washing with soap, follow respiratory etiquettes-cover your month when coughing or sneezing and report the illness to the nearest health facility and also inform the treating doctor regarding your travel history.

CMO CLARIFIES ON DIVERSION OF MHADEI WATER

Panaji :: March 07, 2020  …The Office of the Chief Minister(CMO) today informed that the Supreme Court has observed that the interim order dated April 17, 2014 of Mhadei Tribunal is in force and therefore Karnataka cannot carry out any work without complying with the condition mentioned in the award dated October 18, 2018. With this clarification the Supreme Court has said that the apprehension of Goa Government on the basis newspaper reports that Karnataka will carry out work does not survive and so the application of Goa Government is not required.

The CMO has further informed that with this clarification of Supreme Court, the apprehension of people of Goa that Karnataka will carry out construction or diversion of water is taken care of. Therefore, the interest of people of Goa and Mhadei is protected. We will therefore have to wait for the final verdict of the Supreme Court in August 2020 and for the decision of Mhadei Tribunal in application for clarification/modification. Incase, Karnataka attempts to carry out illegal construction or diversion of water, the Government of Goa shall file contempt petition before the Supreme Court of India.

ENVIRONMENT DEPT. TO BE KNOWN AS ‘DEPT. OF ENVIRONMENT AND CLIMATE CHANGE’

Panaji : March 6, 2020 ::: The Government has amended the Business of the Government of Goa (Allocation) Rules, 1987 and the same are now called as the Business of the Government of Goa (Allocation) (Thirteenth Amendment) Rules 2019.

In view of the above, it is informed that the nomenclature of Department of Environment’ have been changed and herein after known as ‘Department of Environment and Climate Change.’

GUJ CONDOLES DEATH OF SENIOR JOURNALIST MINOO FERNANDES

Panaji ::: The Goa Union of Journalists (GUJ) condoles the passing away of senior sports journalist Inacio Menino Fernandes, who breathed his last after a brief illness on Sunday.
Inacio, lovingly known as Minoo, was 68 and is survived by wife and two sons.
Minoo was a  journalist for 30 years. He started his career as a teacher and taught History and English at St. Anthony’s school, Majorda untill retirement.
Minoo worked as a correspondent for Herald and The Navhind Times for nearly 30 years. While in Herald, he reported crime and sports, while in The Navhind Times, his primary focus area was sports reporting.
St Anthony’s Club, Colva had felicitated Minoo for his selfless service in the field of journalism.
The Goa Union of Journalists conveys it’s deepest sympathies to his family.
