Goan Reporter:DEPT. OF ANIMAL HUSBANDRY ISSUES ADVISORY

The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services in compliance with advisories issued by the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) has reiterated strict enforcement of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, Transport of Animals Rule 1978, and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Slaughter House) Rules, 2001.

The public is informed that transportation of animals by rail and road shall be carried out only in accordance with Rule 96 of the Transport of Animals (Amendment) Rules, 2001 and other applicable provisions of the Transport of Animals Rules, 1978, as amended from time to time. Certificates  for transportation of animals are issued only by authorised officials of the  Department of Animal Husbandry and  Veterinary Services.

The advisory further states that the illegal transportation and slaughter of animals is a punishable offense. Slaughter of animals is permitted only in licensed slaughter houses and  subject to Veterinary certification. Slaughter of cows, pregnant animals,  young animals below three months of age, and camels is prohibited under law.

Citizens are requested to cooperate with authorities and report any instances of animal cruelty, illegal transportation, or unlawful slaughter to the nearest Police Station or Competent Authority.

Goan Reporter:GOA TO CELEBRATE 40 YEARS OF STATEHOOD, PROGRESS AND PRIDE ON MAY 30

Marking four decades of progress, achievement, and cultural pride, the Government of Goa will celebrate the 40th Goa Statehood Day on May 30, 2026, at Dinanath Mangeshkar Kala Mandir, Kala Academy, Panaji, from 9:30 a.m. onwards. The State-Level celebration organized by the Department of Information and Publicity will reflect on Goa’s remarkable journey from a Union Territory to a progressive state while honouring its legacy and aspirations for the future. The celebration will be graced by the presence of the Hon’ble Vice President of India, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan. The other dignitaries who will also grace the function are Governor, Shri Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Chief Minister, Dr Pramod Sawant.

 

The programme will feature a series of initiatives showcasing Goa’s heritage, achievements, and development journey over the last four decades. Highlights include the inauguration of the Padma Vibhushan Mario Miranda Exhibition, release of the Mario Miranda Commemorative Stamp and Special Cover commemorating the centenary year of the noted Goan cartoonist, launch of the coffee table book “Goa: Engineering the Next Era”, and a special screening tracing Goa’s transformation from Union Territory to Statehood. The celebration will also recognise the contribution of Swayampurna Villages and Swayampurna Mitras towards building self-reliant communities across the State.

 

Several key initiatives and recognitions will also form part of the occasion. These include distribution of appointment letters to newly selected Police Sub-Inspectors from the Goa Police Department, launch of enhanced assistance under Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana (DDSSY), and felicitation under the Gopal Ratna Award Scheme for outstanding contributions in dairy farming and milk production. Together, these initiatives reflect Goa’s continued focus on strengthening public service delivery, healthcare support, rural development, and community-led growth.

 

More than a commemorative occasion, the celebration serves as a reflection of Goa’s resilience, identity, and achievements over the last forty years. It also provides an opportunity to acknowledge the people, institutions, and initiatives that have contributed to the State’s growth while looking ahead towards a stronger, more innovative, and self-reliant future.

The Governor, P Ashok Gajapathi Raju has extended his heartfelt greetings and warm wishes to every Goan across the State and around the world on the joyous occasion of Goa Statehood Day. In his message, the Governor said, “Today we celebrate not merely a constitutional milestone but the spirit, identity and aspiration of Goa and its people. Statehood Day reminds us of the democratic journey through which Goa secured its rightful place as the 25th State of the India Union in 1987. It stands as a proud tribute to the vision, determination and sacrifices of generations who preserved Goa’s unique cultural soul while embracing progress and modernity”.

The Governor added,  “Goa is more than a beautiful destination. It is a living example of harmony, literacy, social development and peaceful coexistence. Our State has always demonstrated that development and heritage can go hand in hand; that tradition and innovation can complement each other”.

“Today, as India marches forward with confidence in the Amrit Kaal, Goa too stands at an important moment in its journey. The world around us is changing rapidly. Technology is transforming economies, climate challenges are becoming more visible and societies everywhere are searching for models of sustainable and humane development. In this changing landscape, Goa has the opportunity to emerge as a leader – not only in tourism but in knowledge, innovation, culture, sustainability and quality of life”, the Governor stated.

“We must therefore think beyond the Goa of today and prepare for the Goa of tomorrow. Our youth are talented, ambitious and globally connected. We must empower them with quality education, skills, entrepreneurship opportunities and a sense of responsibility towards society. The dreams of young Goans should find fulfilment here in their own homeland, where talent meets opportunity”, the Governor added.

The Governor continued, “At the same time we must preserve the priceless treasures entrusted to us-our rivers, forests, coastline, villages, traditions, music, language, architecture and community values. Development should strengthen our identity, not weaken it. A truly progressive Goa will be one that grows economically while remaining environmentally conscious and culturally rooted”.

“I also wish to acknowledge the invaluable contribution of every section of society, our farmers, fishermen, teachers, healthcare workers, Government employees, entrepreneurs, artists, workers and members of civil society. Your dedication forms the foundation of Goa’s progress”, the Governor said adding.

“On this occasion, let us also reaffirm our collective commitment to constitutional values, public service and social harmony. Goa has always shown that diversity is not a weakness but a strength. The spirit of mutual respect and communal harmony that defines our State must continue to guide future generations.”

“Every generation receives a Goa from the past but it also carries the responsibility of shaping the Goa of the future. Let us therefore work together with unity, discipline, compassion and vision,  so that the coming decade becomes a golden chapter in the history of our State,” the Governor said.

Goan Reporter:CHIEF MINISTER EXTENDS GREETINGS ON THE OCCASION OF GOA STATEHOOD DAY

Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant extended warm greetings and best wishes to the people of Goa on the occasion of Goa Statehood Day, commemorating the historic day when Goa attained full statehood on  May 30,  1987 and became the 25th State of the Indian Union.

Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant said, “Goa Statehood Day is a proud milestone in the glorious journey of Goa, reflecting the aspirations, identity, culture and democratic spirit of the people of the State”. He said “The achievement of statehood was the result of the efforts, sacrifices and determination of several leaders, freedom fighters and citizens who strived to safeguard Goa’s unique heritage and secure its rightful place in the nation”.

Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant emphasized that under the visionary leadership of   Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India is progressing with renewed confidence towards the goal of a Viksit Bharat 2047. He stated that Goa will continue to actively contribute towards realizing the   Prime Minister’s vision by strengthening good governance, sustainable development, innovation, women empowerment, youth participation and people-centric welfare initiatives.

Dr. Sawant further stated “Goa has made remarkable progress across sectors such as education, healthcare, tourism, infrastructure, agriculture, technology and sustainable development over the years while preserving its rich traditions, communal harmony and cultural diversity and that the Government remains committed to building a Swayampurna Goa and ensuring inclusive growth and opportunities for every citizen”.
