28-12-2013 .. those who are involved in the assault against sant André legislator Vishnu Wagh will be charge sheeted after  thorough investigation has been done, chief minister Manohar Parrikar has assured.

sant André MLA and chairman of entertainment society of goa Vishnu Wagh was attacked by a mob of 70 persons  or so at nadoda at around 9:40 pm on the liberation day  while he was returning from a function at revoda.

Mr Wagh was beaten ny the mobsters and his  official car was damage

 The chief minister assured that investigation was going apace in the incident.

 When asked the arrested person was released,    the home minister said the person was released by the court.

 Mr Parrikar further said that people  could not be arrested on the basis of political allegations.

27-12-2013 …The Indian performing rights society limited has urged all the venue owners and event organizers who are refusing to pay the license fee for playing musical and literary works of IPRS members to pay up.

IPRS is entitled to exercise and enforce the performing rights. In one week alone, various courts have issued three injunction orders in response to cases filed by the IPRS.

: The recent addition to the list is the Goa verdict, whereby the Bombay  High Court has ordered an injunction against Alcon Resorts Holdings Ltd for events going to be held there till the 31st of December 2013.

The court has directed them to pay Rs 2, 36,250 for all the events on or before the 28th of  December 2013. In the event they fail to deposit the amount in Court, they will be restrained from conducting any of the events or any other events in the premises of Radisson Blu.

Speaking to media persons in Panjim, senior regional licensing manager, G. G. Prasad gave more details of the same.

Former chief minister and present AICC General Secretary luizinho faliero states that is not at all interested in contesting the forthcoming lok Sabha elections

24-12-2013 … Former chief minister and present AICC General Secretary luizinho faliero has stated that he was not  interested in contesting the forthcoming lok Sabha elections on a congress ticket in south goa.

 Speaking to media reporters, the former chief minister who is also one of the present general secretary in the all india congress committee stated that he had reiterated that he was not interested in asking for a ticket to fight the lok Sabha elections and the same should be given to the other members  of parliament of the congress party in goa.

 Mr faleiro said that the  question of him contesting the lok Sabha elections did not arise as  the congress  party has appointed him as the AICC general secretary and has given him the responsibility of being in charge of the congress party in some states.

 Commenting  over the last four state assembly elections in the country Faleiro  stated that there was a big difference between parliament and assembly elections in the country and his party had performed well in parliament elections

23-12-2013 … In keeping with the spirit of Christmas and their annual tradition of donating to noble cause, the Goan welfare association, Qatar has donated around Rs. 2 lakh to the new retreat centre cruz de milagres at old goa.

 Along with the Rs. 2 lakh cheque President of the association simon d’silva also handed over a cheque of rs 60 thousand to the orphan children infected  with hiv who had been looked after by ‘Caritas’ goa, a charity trust  to archbishop filipe neri ferrao in the presence of former chief minister luizinho faleiro, Former Caritas Goa director Fr Valerian Vaz and present caritas director fr maverick Fernandes and others

 The Goan welfare association, Qatar has been donating regularly for charitable causes in Goa in the past few years last year and has also helped victims of tsunami, the Gujarat earthquake, children rights and you (CRY) and other organizations

  Speaking on the occasion archbishop filipe neri ferrao thanked the association for helping the church with a noble cause

22-13-2013 … sant André legislator Vishnu Wagh who was attacked by a mob at nadoda  on Goa’s liberation day says nobody should tell him which function to  attend or not to attend,  adding since he is the chairman of a cultural body he was free to attend any cultural function irrespective of who organizes them.

mr Wagh was returning home on Thursday after attending a  kirtan mahotsav organized by Shriram sanskruti kala kendr of covale and mauli boothnath devasthan nadoda.

 Speaking from his hospital bed at Goa medical college and hospital in Bambolim on, sant André legislator it was his prerogative to attend whatever cultural function he chose to attend when Asked whether he was warned not to attend the function by any party men, mr Wagh said.

vishnu said he was not supposed to attend the function but decided to go thee at the lat minute when his relatives called him up.

Mr wagh narrated how he was threatened  by the mob and how the glass windows of his car were smashed.

He said the mob tried to overturn his car while he was sitting inside.

Asked whether was any credence to the rumour that he was joining the nationalist congress party , Mr. Wagh  rubbished the rumour adding it was a cultural function that he attended.

 The chairman of kala academy said he was of the opinion that that any party can organize a meeting in any constituency.

Admitting that he might have put the  party inn an awkward position by attending the function, he said raisi9ng  the issues in the state was his duty as a legislator..

21-12-2013 … The Goa Pradesh Youth Congress President Valanka Alemao has  submitted a memorandum to the Chief minister demanding a reply from the State government by the 10th of January over the intention of  right-wing Hindu group, Ram Sene to set up an office in Goa .

The GPYC president along with members on Friday marched to the  state assembly complex to demand a ban on entry of Sri Ram Sene in Goa.

She maintained that people of all religions lived in harmony in the state and hence Goa did not require an organization like Ram Sene.

Goan sea farers demands to the central government to bring captain Sunil James back to India from Togo

20-12-2013 … Goan sea farers have demanded that the central government bring back captain Sunil James to India from Togo to attend his son’s funeral. They have decided to hand over a memorandum to the prime minister of India in this regard.

They will also ask the government appoint a seafarers cell to keep track of any untoward incident on the detained ship in Togo. The seafarers have also asked the union government to provide safety for the captains on ships as they are not having any safety precautions due which they cannot protect themselves. They are planning to conduct a rally to send a message to the government for getting Sunil James to India as soon as possible.

Addressing  media persons, the president of Goan seafarers association said the togo government had arrested three Indian sailors in july lat and put them on trial. The press conference was also attended by vice president frank Viegas, captain Socorro Cardozo, captain glen ozario, captain elborne D’Silva, lobo, captain spirit Cardozo, cheng gilmark D’Mello, zenc gavi Coutinho and captain mukesh Miranda 

Captain Savio Silva lobo said that if Captain Sunil James was involved in assisting pirates he would not take those pirates to port.

liberation day celebrated in the state

19-12-2013 … On the occasion of the Goa’s 52nd Liberation Day on Thursday, the main state-level function was held at the Parade Ground Campal in  Panaji, where chief minister Manohar Parrikar unfurled the national flag.

The chief minister later had a review of the parade and took the salute and later addressed the people of the state.

He also presented  awards to those who have excelled in different fields. Various cultural programs were held at the Parade Ground to mark the day. 

 in Margao,  the liberation day was marked at the district headquarters. Present on the occasion were Labor minister Avertano Furtado, south goa collector N. D Agarwal, Benaulim MLA Caetano Silva, Velim MLA Benjamin Silva, south Goa superintendent of police Shekar Prabhudessai, freedom fighters and others.

Many schools from south goa also participated in the programme.

The All goa employees union staged a protest in front of the collector’s office and shouted slogans against the south goa collector demanding his ouster. Police officials held a march past which also included the military and the N.C.C cadets. A cultural programme was organized on the occasion.

 The Child Art Competition was held in three Categories of children: Below 5 years on Any Topic, 5 to 9 years on Cartoon Character and for children of 10 to 15 years on Famous Place of Goa or  a Monument. More than 500 Children participated in the competition.

18-12-2013 ..  five schools and three students have been awarded for creating awareness about the spread of tuberculosis and leprosy in the state by India development foundation (formerly known as Indian leprosy foundation) recently.

Five schools awarded were the king’s school of Sao José de areal, pope john XXIII high school of Quepem, kendriya vidhyalaya of Bambolim, Mary immaculate girls school of Panaji and our lady of rosary high school of Fatorda and . Beside this, three students also received awards namely shefali of the kings school,  swejal gawas of the kings school and Asis  the kings school. India development foundation (formerly Indian leprosy foundation) held its annual award function recently at Ravindra bhavan Margao.

Speaking on the ocsion, Doctor AP jaya raman said TB was increasing among people and that they had come up with 2 solutions for this: Empowerment of women and education of children. If women are provided with better knowledge, skills and education then the world will be a better place to live.

Dr pravin bhatt said that India had one-third of the worlds TB patients. He also said that TB was spreading through spitting, coughing and sneezing. TB was causing a loss of around 12 crore rupees annually to the exchequer.
