Konkan Railway TTE saves drugged passengers

07/08/2014 …. Konkan Railway TTE, Shri V K Chendavankar, is being lauded for his good work for saving lives of 3 passengers who were stated to be drugged in Mangala Express train and were found unconscious by him. He got them admitted to local hospital at Chiplun for medical treatment and saved their lives.

The details of the case are that when train no. 12618 Nizamuddin – Ernakulam Mangala Express reached Panvel at about 0930 hrs on 3/8/2014, the Konkan Railway TTE, Shri V K Chendavankar, boarded the train for ticket checking duty at Panvel. While checking coach no. S-10 around Roha station, he realized that 2 passengers in the coach at berth no. 50, 51 were unconscious and another passenger at berth no.53 was semi-conscious. Upon enquiring with the semi-conscious lady passenger, it came to light that all of them were related and that someone had offered them tea when the train was around Nashik station and upon drinking the tea they had all fallen unconscious.

Without wasting time, the TTE passed message to RPF Control of Konkan Railway who alerted the RPF and the medical staff at Kolad and Chiplun stations. The TTE contacted the relative of the semi-conscious passenger on her phone who asked the TTE to bring the passengers to Madgaon, but seeing the gravity of the case, the TTE convinced the passenger to alight at Chiplun where they can be provided medical aid. After she agreed, the 3 passengers were detrained at Chiplun station and readily escorted to Life Care Hospital at Chiplun by ambulance with RPF and medical staff of Konkan Railway.

The 3 passengers Shri Bala (age-58 yrs), Smt. Jaya (age-51 yrs), and Smt. Lily (age-49 yrs) (names changed) – are all from Kerala. A purse containing cash of Rs. 22000/-, Gold Chain of 03 tolas, 03 Gold bangles, ATM card, ID card etc are reported to be stolen from their belongings.

Further inquiry into the matter revealed that these 3 passengers were offered tea by some co-passengers. They have refused to file any complaint. However, Konkan Railway has forwarded the details of the case to Central Railway.

Konkan Railway permitted these three passengers to travel on same ticket in train no.12618 Dn Mangala Exp of following day.

Konkan Railway, on its section from Kolad to Thokur, regularly conducts surprise checks and escorts important trains which has acted as deterrent to criminals on the section in past few years. However, passengers are urged not to accept eatables from strangers and be vigilant

DEATH ANNIVERSARY OF LATE SHRI D.B. BANDODKAR ON AUGUST 12

Panaji, August 6, 2014 …. Death Anniversary of late Shri D.B. Bandodkar,  the  first  Chief Minister of Goa, will be observed on Tuesday August 12, 2014. On the    occasion, Chief Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar alongwith  Cabinet Ministers will place garlands/flowers on the Samadhi of late  Shri D.B. Bandodkar  and pay their homage at Miramar at 8:30 a.m.  followed by garlanding of the statue of late Shri D.B. Bandodkar at Old Secretariat, Panaji at 9:00 a.m.

All the Secretaries to Government and Heads of Departments are requested to attend the aforesaid function.

Seminar on Computer and Cyber Security at ETDC, Goa

NEW ADMISSION CRITERIA FOR POST GRADUATE MD MS DIPLOMA COURSES

Panaji; Aug 5, 2014 … The Public Health Department, Government of Goa, has conveyed approval for implementation of new admission criteria for the Post Graduate  MD, MS, Diploma courses of the 50% State Quota from the Academic year 2016-17.

 There will be a Common Entrance Test (CET) at the end of internship covering full courses of MBBS, to be conducted by NBE as AIPGMEE for obtaining State Merit List. The CET will carry only 50% weightage marks; the balance 50% weightage will be combined merit of 1st, II  and III year part- 1 and III year, part – II of MBBS Courses and on compilation of above a combined merit list will be prepared which shall form the basis for admission to Post Graduate Courses           (Degree, Diploma)   

SCHEME OF NATIONAL AWARDS FOR BRAVERY FOR CHILDREN

 Panaji August 4, 2014 … The Indian Council for Child Welfare, New Delhi gives awards for exemplary acts of bravery to children every year under scheme of National Awards for Bravery for Children 2014.

The main criteria for the selection of candidates is the performance of a distinct and visible act of bravery in the face of an impending threat of injury or danger to life or an act of courage and daring against a social evil / crime. The deed should be “an act of spontaneous selfless service in the face of risk to life or threat of physical injury and or an act courage and daring against a social evil/crime.

The child should not be below 6 years and above 18 years of age on the date of the incident similarly incident which have occurred between July 1, 2013 and June 30, 2014 will be considered for the 2014 awards. The awardees receive a medal, a certificate and cash award. Gifts are given by Philanthropic organizations.

COMPUTER LITERACY TEST FOR LDC POST

Panaji, August 4, 2014 …. The Computer literacy test of the Candidates who had applied with  reference  to advertisement/sponsorship by Employment Exchange for  the posts of Lower Division Clerk in the North Goa Collectorate has been fixed  from August 12, 2014 to September 15, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. onwards at the Goa Education Development  Corporation, 1st floor, Directorate of Education Building, Alto-Porvorim, Bardez-Goa.

The Candidates  should note that Computer literacy test will be a test  for shortlisting  the Candidates for oral interview which will be intimated later on by sending call letter as well as on publication in newspaper.

CM INAUGURATES NEW COLLEGE BUILDING AT SANKHALI

  Panaji: August 4, 2014 … Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar inaugurated newly constructed building of Government College of Arts, Science and commerce at Sakhali yesterday. The building has been constructed by the Goa State Infrastructure development corporation Limited (GSIDC) at the cost of Rupees 28 crores.

Deputy Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly and MLA of Mayem Constituency Shri Anant Shet, Vice Chairman of GSIDC and MLA of Sankhali Constituency, Dr.Pramod Sawant, Chairman of Higher Education, Shri Bhaskar Nayak and Principal of Govt. College Sankhali, Mrs. Lucy James were present on the occasion.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, in his address highlighted the measures taken by his Government in providing quality infrastructure for educational Institutes inspite of all the financial hurdles, Government has accorded top priority for educational infrastructure in every corner of Goa. He said, value based education is the need of the hour and students should make use of all the facilities provided to show their future of young ones. He appealed to the students to take care of the newly constructed building.

Deputy Speaker Shri Anant Shet, said that the aim of education is not just obtaining a degree but through education we want to make cultured patriots and socially sound human beings who will always think of others and society instead of themselves.

Shri Bhaskar Naik, appreciated the efforts initiated by Chief Minister in providing quality education and infrastructure and also appealed to  the authorities to make this Government college transformed into a research center.

            Dr. Pramod Sawant, said, newly constructed college building has added to the glory of the  Sakhali town. New projects like KTC new bus stand, full fledged hospital, master plan for all round development of Sakhali will transform change Sakhali into a mini city he added.

HEALTH MINISTER HIGHLIGHTS IMPORTANCE OF BREASTFEEDING

Panaji, August 4, 2014 …. Minister for Health Shri Laxmikant Parsekar  has highlighted the importance of breastfeeding. He said, mother’s milk is best natural food for babies and that  breastfeeding should be  started soon after the birth to protect the baby from any infections and needs to be continued as long as possible to ensure healthy  generation.

 The Health Minister was speaking on the occasion of the  World Breastfeeding  week celebrations at a function had at the village panchayat hall, Harmal in Pernem taluka.

 The function was organized by the Community Food and Nutrition Extension Unit, Food and Nutrition Board, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India in collaboration with Department of Woman and Child Development and ICDS Project Pernem.

 The theme of the celebration of this year is ‘Breastfeeding: A winning Goal for Life’.

Speaking further Shri Parsekar elaborated on the theme ‘Breastfeeding: A winning Goal for Life’  and stressed the need to imbibe  good sanskars on the child at their tender age which will help them to become  good citizens and achieve to develop a well cultured society.

 Shri Parsekar and other  dignataries gave away the prizes to the winners of food nutrition competition on the occasion.

 Shri. Sandeep Banaulikar, Demonstration Officer and In-charge, Food and Nutrition Board welcomed the gathering. He explained about breastfeeding and urged the women folks to avail the  benefits from the programmes being implemented under the Food and Nutrition Board.

 Smt. Suverna Thakur, Sarpanch of Harmal and Smt. Vijaya Vernekar, Child Development Project Officer also spoke on the occasion.

 

AGRICULTURAL ACTIVITIES

Panaji ; July 30, 2014 … Agricultural prospects for July, 2014, Transplanting/Sowing of Kharif rice is ongoing, Planting materials are made available to the farmers at Agricultural farms and all Zonal Offices of the Directorate of Agriculture.

System of Rice Intensification (SRI), method of paddy cultivation which can give higher yields with less seed use is being popularized in kharif seasion, 153 kgs vegetable seeds has been sold at 5o% subsidy during the month of kharif vegetable cultivation. Workshop on “vegetables under Poly house-production and Marketing

91 farmers attended the workshop, eight students are nominated against reserved seats at Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Knkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, Dapoli, Ratnagiri, Maharashtra for higher education in Agriculture field

while 1542 soil samples were tested in soil Testing laboratory, Ela Old Goa and Maragao and three Agriculture Training three Home Science Training Camp were conducted at Dharbandora, wherein 48 farmers and 83 farm women attended the camp.
